Query about film/songs DVDs

As you know, most publishers of Hindi film DVDs often edit out a scene
or two and even the entire song in order to fit in their ads. For
example, Eros Entertainment removed from Teesri Manzil (1966) DVD the
entire sequence of Shammi Kapoor taking Asha Parekh and gang to
Premnath's hilltop bungalow and entertaining them there on the pretext
of being Premnath's nephew. Similarly, they removed from Ajanabee
(1974) DVD the bed scene of Rajesh Khanna and Zeenat Aman.
I have many Eros DVDs like Deewaar, Sholay, Hum Kisise Kum Naheen,
Yaadon Ki Baaraat, Caravan, and Trishul. The Joshila (1973) DVD does
not have the songs 'jo baat ishaaron mein kahi' and 'mehfil mein
chhupaane pade'. Most of these Eros DVDs have all songs, but I am not
so sure about other scenes. I stopped buying Eros DVDs about 8 years
ago.
What's your opinion of Eros DVDs? Did they stop cutting scenes and
songs in the past few years? Which DVD publisher is best in terms of
publishing the entire film and quality? What about Shemaroo and Moser
Baer? Please let me know, as I am planning to buy a bulk of DVDs.

I find Shemaroo the best in terms of quality. moser baer is quite bad
(though very well priced), friends brings out rare films so you will
not find those titles on other brands. ultra is borderline. eros is
quite good with new films. t series is pathetic.
i am not quite sure about chopping off of scenes - as i do not
remember the films when they were released in much detail, but from a
quality and preservation purpose would recommend shemaroo.
though i hate their website as my anti virus says there is malware on
this site and never allows me to go there :(

Shemaroo used to be good quality. Now not true. I have bought over 400
DVDs and VCDs (when DVD was not available). Out of these more than 150
are Shemaroo. They were good initially. Now it is a crapshoot. Some
are fine and others are bad. But we don't have much choice really. I
am not aware of any movie that was available from more than one
source.
BTW, all these companies have YouTube channels where they upload songs
and sometimes even full movies.

Entertainment tend to be very good (I am reluctant to use the term
"excellent" though) but quite expensive. They seems to make some
effort to make DVDs from the film source and not from pre-existing
video tapes. I like the sound quality of their DVDs. Having said that,
I was disappointed to note that their Chhoti Behan (1959) DVD was
missing an entire song..
VCDs made by one and all are hopeless in terms of lost scenes and
songs and they suffer from poor quality video and bad audio. With the
exception of one VCD, every other VCD that I have played had at least
one, and in a few cases, two missing songs. The one VCD that had all
the songs (I forgot the name of the movie) had so many scenes missing
that the last three songs appeared at one-minute intervals. We see
hero and heroin fighting and going their ways and within a minute they
are singing the last, a happy, song of reunion.

Home Video market in Late 70's. A very large number of old films
(those which were
released prior to Sale through this channel) and also the one
released from then on
became availble over the next 20 years.
When DVD format was introduced in High-End markets (USA and UK), very
few
customers bought them, because of sky-high prices. Almost all the DVD
releases
or pre-existing 'Released Films', were made from 'Master Video
Tapes' (high-end
tapes, used by TV stations. Have wider width, lower transport
speed). These DVDs
releases had resolution similar to or lower than their Source VHS
Tapes. If songs
and scenes were deleted in the 'Source VHS Tape', then the
corresponding DVD
had same Run-Time.
Also, many unauthorized manufacturers used Retail - Pack VHS tapes,
for
conversion to DVD format. The quality was quite bad (specially the
Audio Track,
which was over-recorded during coonversion from analog to digital
format).
The above 2 conversion to DVD formats, do not give you any value for
money.
On the other hand, DVDs released for films which were released after
year 1999 (my
estimate) and later, have quality which is superior to that of
corresponding VCDs.
Needless to say, few if any DVD (and in most cases the VCDs) have
any missing
song or scene. My guess is that the Film Prodicers themselves get the
'Release
Print' converted to DVD and VCD formats and Sell the rights for
DVD/VCD release
with the manufacturers - 5 or 10 years period.
