One remembers the papers he read at conferences and programs he
presented at NCPA and elsewhere. On one occasion PL Deshpande and he
sat at opposite ends of the line-up on stage. Together they presented
a wonderful celebration of 75 years of the Marathi musical play
मानापमान.

He has written many books and articles and was a popular speaker on
stage and TV.

He learned to sing from Pt. Gajananbuwa Joshi for many years till,
legend has it, the latter told him "You speak so well - you should
become a lawyer."

It was at a Sangeet Natak Academy music workshop held at Bangalore
University that I first heard Prof. Ranade speak, as well as sing. I
came away very impressed by his musical scholarship and a sweet,
supple voice.

RIP Dr. Ranade - will miss you :(

Regards,

Balu Nadig
