The book is right. The kriti is set to rAga ManoharI and is listed as
such in "sourcebooks" of the Dikshitar tradition like the Sangita
Sampradaya Pradarshini.

Probably, this caused a lot of nomenclature problems earlier on in this
century when public discussions regarding music and lakShaNa started since
this ManoharI was very different from the ManoharI as in Tyagaraja's
kriti "paritApamu gani". Hence to set it apart clearly from the latter,
people began to refer to the former rAga as kamalAmanoharI.

Another rare Dikshitar kriti in this rAga is
"shankaram abhirAmi manoharam sashidharam amrtakaTeshvaram"
sung on the deity at TirukkaDaiyur.

-Srini.

ps: There is also a Tyagaraja kriti "nI muddu mOmu jUpavE" in
the rAga kamalAmanoharI. I heard this a long while ago from
Vidvan S.Kalyanaraman - don't even remember how it starts.

Maybe this rAga is very similar to the one in "kanjadalAyatAkShI"
and "shankaram abhirAmi"; that would be a logical reason for renaming
Dikshitar's Manohari, since both of these Tyagaraja kritis were better
known earlier.

pps: "paritApamu gani" is one of the very last kritis of Tyagaraja.
DKJ used to render it.

I have the Dikshithar Keerthanaigal book in which the song "KanchadalAya"
has been given as the janya ragam of 33 Mela kartha ragam, which is
Gangeya Bhushani. But in cassettes it is recorded as Kamalamanohari which
is derived from the 15th Melakartha ragam of MAYAMALAVA GOWLA. Was this

kriti composed by Dikshitar in Manohari ragam as it is given in the book and
later sung by popular musicians in Kamala manohari? If anyone knows something
in this context please shed some light. I tried to discuss this with a friend
of mine who has learnt music under the tutelage of Lalgudis sister, but she
did not seem to know. I am sure someone will have more knowledge in this
matter.

Though Kamalamanohari sounds like a derivative of MAYAMALAVA GOWLA, it is
considered a derivative of SARASANGI, I suppose. They differ by a Re,
which is absent in Kamalamanohari. So, it can be under either one.
The only reason I remember this is because I was searching in the
derivatives of MAYAMALAVA GOWLA for this raga. But, found it under
SARASANGI.

There are several other ones like this. If you listen to SUNADHA
VINODHINI, you would expect it to be a derivative of GAMANSARAMA
which is the parent of HAMSANANDI. But, SUNADHA VINODHINI is considered
a derivative of KALYANI!!
