Thanx.
Shekar.
The ragam is yamuna kalyani. The song is usually
sung in madhyama sruthi and was popularised in
concerts by G. N. Balasubramaniam.

Shekar:
I have head this sung by the late GNB. My memory is that the rage is
Yamuna Kalyani.

Composed by late GN BalasubrahmaNyam, 'rAdhA samEtA krishNA' (meaning
krishNa along with rAdhA) - and not samEdhA krishNA - is in the rAga
yaman kalyANi.

It wasn't composed by GNB but was popularised in concerts
by him.

I have heard that "Radha Sametha Krishna" is in Mishra Yaman. I
suppose this is different from Yaman Kalyani, although it may be
subtle.
Can someone enlighten me on the difference between the two, and
also let know who actually composed that song ?
regards,
Ranganatha Prasad Sridharan
Beg to differ. The raga, as I pointed out in a previous posting,
is Misra-Yaman. The HMV cassette release of GNB's old recordings,
includes Radha Sametha Krishna as the last song, and the raga is
indicated as Misra Yaman. The label does not indicate the
composer, however.
In any case, IMHO the raaga chhaya of the above rendition is quite different
from that of Yaman-Kalyani (Yamuna Kalyani to some?), to which Krishna Nee
Begane Baaro is set. Misra-Yaman has the lilting usage of G3 (anthara) and
R3 (shatshruthi) == G2 (sadharana), M1 (Shuddha) and M2 (Prathi),
and N2 (Kaishiki) and N3 (Kakali), apart from R2 (Chathushruthi) and
D2 (Chathushruthi).
Some Misra-Yaman Characteristic phrases are:
1. S N2 P N2 S G3
2. G3 R3 G3 M2 G3
3. P N3 D2 P
4. G3 M1 R2 S
Actually, the above 4 sound pretty decent when sung in sequence :-)
Regards,
Raghu
