The song 'ghanashyaam sundaraa' (in the Marathi film Amar
Bhoopali) was sung by Panditrao Nagarkar. The song 'saangaa
mukund kuNee haa paahilaa' is yet another duet in the film
which he sang with Lata.

FWIW simple googling reveals that he acted in two Marathi films Amar
Bhoopali (1952) and Sant Bhanudas (1953) and a Hindi movie Maya Bazaar
in 1932(!). Other songs are also attributed to him, but the voice
seems different including Sanga Mukund.

Does anyone have the original Dehu Road CD?
Havanur
All the songs filmed on him in the movie (and there are quite a few!)
are in his own voice.
FWIW: "saa.ngaa mukund" has Asha; the other duets with Lata are
"ghaDii ghaDii are manamohanaa" (brilliant song!) and "tujhyaa
priitiiche duHkh malaa" (the film version; the record version has only
a Lata solo).
Warm regards,
Abhay
But Karan Dewan's singing in Rattan ('jab tum hii
chale parades' and 'saawan ke baadalo') does not
remind me of Panditrao Nagarkar.

He was just an ordinary vocalist. He used to call himself Sangeet
Kohinoor. He used to live in Nasik for a while and then moved to Pune.
I remember his Pune house having his name as Sangeet Kohinoor
Panditrao Nagarkar. There are many things about his life but this is
not the place for it.
Sanaga Mukund is from Amar Bhoopali. As a matter of fact it is the
first song in the film. It is during a Keertan. The Kathekari keeps on
saying Kuthe ahe Maza Mukund Kuthe ahe maza mukund and starts this
song.

Kaka, this is just too tempting for me! Pray tell me how you decided
his ordinariness. Is it his guru-parampara? Are you comparing him
with other contemporary artists? Is it your reaction to his self-
assessment?
BTW, about the sign on his house which you mention - was it there in
his time or was it a blue commemorative plaque put there afterward?
DG
The sign was there when he used to live there. About the rest of your
questions I will post some other day. I still remember his face and
many other things. More later
