Just read the following news on ORKUT. Can someone please confirm:

Dinkar kaikini passed away this morning at around 10. 15 a.m.

Last of Pt. S N ratanjankar's 3 illustrious disciples in Mumbai. Pt.
K G Ginde and Pt. S C R Bhat taught at Vallabh Sangeet Vidyalaya in
Sion and Pt. Kaikini taught at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in South
Mumbai. Between them they have raised a whole generation of musicians
and music lovers of Mumbai. Pt. Kaikini's son Yogesh Samsi is Alla
Rakha sahab's discople and a brilliant tabla player and guru. His
daughter Aditi Upadhya teaches voice in Bangalore.

For once please let us not sing the refrain of "what a great loss to
the music world" etc and instead remember the gifts he has left us -
disciples, compositions, recordings, memories ... and say "what a
great gain for the music world his life has been!

He was ITC-SRA artist of the month a year ago -

I had the good fortune of meeting him in person at his residence in
Gamdevi. (I had been there with his one time jugalbandi partner,
Kumarprasad Mukherjee). A most wonderful man and a great exponent of
the Agra gharana.

Subsequently I had met him a second time (at his residence) where he
told me the story of how hours & hours of AIR recordings of the Aftaab-
e-mausiqi were getting destroyed in the dusty storage rooms of AIR.
His voice had almost choked while saying this.

His HMV releases of Nand & Yaman absolutely wonderful.

May his soul rest in peace.

Indeed every music lover's voice would choke hearing this pathetic
news about A-e-M's recordings.

Amir Khan's Bhairav being erased to record some politician's speech.
