1. Music Sources:
-----------------

Shrimati's
2011 University Ave, Berkeley, CA 94704
Phone:(510) 548-6220 Tu through Su 11am-6pm
Fax:(510) 548-1838
Almost complete selection of CDs, cassettes and LPs.
Very professional service. Will send a full catalog and periodic
updates for $3. Unusually catalog cassettes also. The prices are
'standard', so will be cheaper to buy at your nhbd grocery store,
but don't you want to patronize a well run business? The CD catalog
now is about 2500 titles; when it was smaller, used to include
a photocopy of the inlay cards. Catalog is well organized.

Asmara House
5568 Sepulveda Boulevard, Culver City, CA 90230, USA.
Ph. (310) 398 0080
Fax:
Mail Order:Yes
Only CDs. Catalog costs about $10

Vista India
1628 Oak Tree Rd, Edison, NJ 08820
Ph:(908) 494-9155
Fax:(908) 549-9765
Fair stock of CDs
No catalog for cassettes, CD catalog somewhat sloppy. Prices 'standard'.
Inarticulate salesman.

Ziba music/gift center
behind Standard Sweets on Pioneer Blvd
Artesia, CA 90701
Ph: 310 402-5194
New store, so polite but inefficient service. Stock some cassette
labels such as Atlantis that are not stocked by mainstream stores.
Not sure if they do mail order.

Indian Cultural Academy
4 Trodden Path
Lexington, MA 02173-8202
(617) 862-7852
Do mail order.
Not clear from the name what the Academy does, but they stock an
excellent selection of Carnatic music cassettes, including many
live recordings. Prompt and efficient service, accompanied by an
honest recommendation to retape the prerecorded cassettes from India
onto good quality tapes. Their list gets posted on the net occasionally.

V.U.Arts and Music
1593 Central avenue., Suite 222, Albany NY 12205, USA
Catalog: Available free, updates also free on request
tel # 518 274 7895
Fairly complete selection, catalog could be a little better. Maintain
a computer data base of music. Also send out a newsletter. Prices slightly
cheaper than Shrimati's.

TOWER RECORDS
Your neighboring tower records store stocks quite a few Indian CDs in the
international section.

Att. Mr. Amrit Kakaria
Better than even chance they don't answer. I haven't been in touch
with the NY office for some time, so my info may be out of date. So
you can try the Canadian agent, who probably will, especially if you
tell him you heard about him through me:

Harmonia Mundi USA is the US distributor for
numerous labels that feature CDs of Indian classical music, including
Auvidis' Ethnic label, Inedit, Le Chant du Monde, Ocora, Silex, Auvidis'
Unesco label, and Wergo's Spectrum label.
Though most of our business is supplying retail stores, we are now
selling directly to private customers when they are unable to get the
discs they need through their local store. Our catalog is free, and you
may request one via email, phone, or fax. In the near future, I will post
a detailed listing of the discs we carry on rec.music.indian.classical.
