CARNATIC CLASSICAL MUSIC CONCERT ON THE VEENA IN WASHINGTON D.C.

Vidushi Jayanthi Rajagopal will be playing a Carnatic Classical Music concert on the Veena at
the Murugan Temple of North America in Lanham, MD. The concert will be held on Sunday,
October the 29th, 1995, from 10:30 AM to 12 Noon. Ms. Rajagopal will be accompanied by
Dr. P.K. Swaminathan on the Mridangam. All are welcome to this free concert.

Ms. Rajagopal is a disciple of Vidwan R.S. Keshavamurthy, the father of the famous veena
maestro R.K.Suryanarayana. She has also learned from Vidwan H.S. Krishnamurthy and Sangeeta
Ratnakara Chandrashekaraiah. She is an exponent of the Mysore style of music. Her forte lies
in melodious and "bhavapoorvaka" raga alapana, clear and distinct notes, and crisp rendering
of the kritis. She received the first rank in the Vidwat examination. She was a performing
artist on All India Radio, Mysore for 3 years prior to coming over to the United States. She
has played many solo concerts in India, including at the J.S.S. Music Sabha, Thyagaraja Gana
Sabha, Gana Bharathi etc. In the last 4 years of her stay in the United States, she has
played many concerts in various social and cultural associations. She teaches classical music
on the Veena at her residence in Laurel, MD.

Dr. P.K. Swaminathan is an accomplished percussion artist, who learned the Mridangam from
Kodivayur Gopalakrishnan. He has played numerous concerts in the Washington D.C. Metropolitan
area.

Directions:

Take Beltway 495 (East or West)
Take exit to 201 Kennilworth Avenue.
Road splits. Stay on right towards 201 S.
Within 50 feet, you will see an exit ramp on the right for University Boulevard (193) and
Greenbelt Road. Take this exit.
Go up the ramp and stay on the rightmost lane for Greenbelt Road (193 East).
Make right onto Greenbelt Road and go on it for 1 mile or so. See signs for Hanover Parkway
(right after the shopping center on the right).
Make right onto Hanover Parkway. Go past 2 traffic lights. Second traffic light is for Good
Luck Road. After Good Luck Road, Hanover Parkway becomes Princess Garden Parkway. Continue on
Princess Garden Parkway for half a mile. You will see the temple on the right (Murugan Temple
of N.A.)
