An excellent Dasar krithi is Charanam Bhava Karunaamai Guru Dheena
Dhayalo! popularized by MLV and now by Sudha Raghunathan. The ragam
is quite similar to the ragam Ravichandrika though a genius could
discern the difference.
The Arohanam-Avarohanam should be,
sa-chathushruthi ri-anthara ga-shudda ma-chathushruthi da-kakali ni---
sa-ni-da-ma-ga-ri-sa.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
We could even introduce such rare ragama in "raga of the week" list.

Time is nature's way of making sure that everything
doesn't happen at once.

I believe SN-DND-MGRS is preferred over SNDMGRS

Not that I dislike the idea of being a genius :^), but IMHO I think the
difference is easily discerned. I haven't heard Hamsavinodini rendered
by any expert, but based on Anand's description, I tried it out, and there
is quite a difference between it and Ravichandrika. I learnt
"Niravadisuka.." in Ravichandrika, which has Kaishiki Nishadha, rather
than Kakali.
BTW, is the aarohana vakra in Ravichandrika? "m d s ..." is frequently used.
On the other hand "m n d m g ...", and "m n d s ..." are also used
in the chitta swara of Niravadisuka. Hmmm. Will check my boooks.
And, I second Anand's suggestion regarding rare ragas. A thread on that
could be quite interesting. Maybe there was one before that I missed?
Cheers,
Raghu
