Raga Nat Bhairavi is a Carnatic melakarta raga.
S.N. Ratanjankar has composed a few bandishes and
a dhrupad in this raga for Hindustani renditions, and
they are published in Abhinava Geetamanjiri, a collection
published by his devoted disciple K.G. Ginde.
The introduction says (my translation):
"Nat Bhairavi is a Carnatic melakarta which in the
Hindustani tradition translates to the Asavari thaat.
The Carnatic vidwans sing it as a raga. The original
lakshanas say that this is a sampoorna-jati raga;
it been in vogue in the Hindustani paddhati for
a number of years and is rendered by making both
the madhyam and nishad durbal (weak) in Arohi
prayogas. The vadi is the dhaivat and the samvadi
rishab. Itis deemed to be an early morning raga.:
Ginde gives the uthav as folllows (M=shuddha):
PdS", R"S", nd, P, PM, dPMgR, RgP, MgR, gRS
I have Gindeji's rendition of Ratanjankar's
composition "deenana dukha harana" but I am
unable to locate it right now. The song "kabhi
kuchh pala jeevan ke" by Anuradha P in the movie
RANG BIRANGI has an uthav similar to the
Ratanjankar bandish. It is unlikely that the
composer R.D. Burman knew of it (or the raga,
for that matter).

Do you also know how the use the shudh Dha?.....
If I understand correctly the Ma and the Ni are weak in Arohi?? Does
this mean you have to skip them?
And....are there some hindustanic recordings of this raag? I only have
one alap of Ravi Shankar,
