Hi,
I got the lyrics from a site for the song "Tyaga Yoga
Vaibhavam"...could anyone provide an outline for the meaning of the
lyrics?
Another small question, in "Hecharikaga" by Sri Tyagaraja what does
the word Hechariakaga mean?
Since I cannot send attachments, I am pasting the lyrics.

Thanks,

--Raghu.

Dear Music Lovers,

For anyone and all who have questions about compositions of the Trinity, in
terms of lyrics, meaning, raga, tala, etc perhaps the best and most
conclusive refernece that I know of is the books compiled and edited by
Sangita Kalanidhi Sri T.K. GOVINDA RAO by the Ganamandir Trust. All
publications of composers by TKG include:

1. A free style gist (in English) of the meanings of the songs
2. Lyrics in Devanagari script
3. Lyrics in Diacritical Roman Script
4. "S-R-G-M" notation for each song

other features of the books include: a classifications of songs, a complete
index in both Devanagari and Roman scripts, glossary of common words,
illustrations for selected songs by senior artiste S. Rajam, and songs
appearing in order of melakartha. All books contain ALL of the
authentically available songs of the respective composer.

The books brought of so far include: Compositions of Tyagaraja,
Compositions of Muddusvami Dikshitar, Compositions of Syama Sastri,
Annasvami Sastri and Subbaraya Sastri, and Varnamanjari (50 Tana and Pad
Varnas.. to be updated soon). Compositions of Maharaja Svati Tirunal is to
be released in this year and plans hold for the massive undertaking of
Compositions of Puranadara Dasa.

If you are interested in obtaining these books by becoming a Ganamandir
Trust Patron member, or for more information about Ganamandir Trsut and

The word hecharika literally means warning. In this context it might
mean grandeur (somewhat like what you hear in hindi movies they say
'savdhan' before a king enters the court).

Meaning
Address to Lord Thyagaraja (Lord Siva in Tiruvarur)
I always take abode in Sadasivam, who is Thyagaraja in yogic state, is
the water (vam - essential for life), is the World (bhavam), is
glorious (vaibhavam), possesses yogic power (yoga vaibhavam),
practices Raja Yoga (rajayoga vaibhavam), and makes King of mountains
blessed (agaraja yoga vaibhavam; Himavan - by marrying his daughter
Parvati).

King of Snakes (Vasuki) prays His feet. He is the basis for Nada,
Bindu, and Kala. Great Yogis know magnificience of His feet. He gives
earthly pleasure and liberation simultaneously. He is the reason for
the creation, sustenance, and dissolution of the Universe which is
result of the union of chit (intelligent) and achit (un-intelligent).
He pervades in time starting from the yuga, year, month, day, ghati
(24 minutes), and now.

He is guru to Lord Muruga. He is the consort of Parvati (Bhairavi) who
has the form of Truth, Intelligence, and Bliss. He is tranquil (sam),
effulgent (prakasam), knower of the Self (swarupa praksam), the
teacher of the nature of philosophical truth (tatvaswarupa praksam),
known by all the different religions (sakala tatvaswarupa prakasam),
and in the form of Siva and Sakthi (potential energy and active power)
which is the basis of every thing.

Musical Information
Composer:
Muthuswami Dikshitar
Raagam:
Ananda Bhaiavi - Janya of 20th Melakartha Nata Bhairavi
This raaga is very famous in carnatic music and in the south indian
film music. Especially Syama Sastri and Dikshitar explored this raga's
nature in detail.
