Hello,

I am looking for any archive or list of Hindustani classical performances aired on All India Radio from 1950 to 1970. I am specifically looking for violin solos and duets, but also interested in other instruments. Any resource is welcome.

Regards,
Debamitro Chakraborti

Are you looking for the recordings themselves, or just a record of who
performed what on which date etc?

This is a very broad specification. Could you be more specific?

recently when i was in India last year, I saw a set of 14 CDs with very old recordings going back to 1902 all the way to 2010 (the most recent being a very fine singer, Pt. Shrinivas Joshi). It's 2000 rupees but it's definitely worth it. It may not have Akashvani recordings, but it is a great set.

I am interested in knowing more about him. Didn't realise Pts Jog and
Datar had taken tutelage from the same guru. Their techniques differ
considerably; Jog would hold his violin upright in the Western style,
parallel to the ground, while Datar's stance is similar to Carnatic
violinists, slanted nearly perpendicular to the ground. Perhaps Jog's
stance changed through his tutelage with Allauddin Khan?

If you have the 3-part ALAAP set then you would probably have the recordings in background while Narrator explains. Try to extract those recordings.

T Series (Super Cassette Industries) have some very fine releases of Bismillah Khan, Ali Akbar Khan & Nikhil Banerjee. Most of the recordings are of the early to mod 1960's vintage. The audio CD's are reasonably priced too. (Rs 100 each, approximately).

On a number of AIR broadcasts from the 70s (especially the Mumbai station) there is violin accompaniment. Does anybody know who was on the staff as a violin player at that time? Or was it the musician who performed with the violinist on a permanent basis?

Ahirbhairav-ji,

I have been learning under Sharat Chandra Srivastava for the past few years and it is I who has uploaded many of the videos :-) That is how my quest began.

My grandmother used to write articles and read them on All India Radio in the 60's in Mumbai. She has recently passed away. I am looking for those recordings. Does anyone know if All India Radio would still have them? and how can I get them? Please let me know
