Irshad Khan, is the second son of Sitar and Surbahar Maestro
Ustad Imrat Khan, and nephew of sitar legend Ustad Vilayat Khan.
Irshad Khan is a sitar and surbahar player in his own right, and of
the very highest order. He has performed extensively all over
India and throughout the world, including prestiguous venues as
the Royal Albert and Royal Festival Halls in London.
In this programme Irshad Khan will be performing classical and
light classical pieces on the sitar with his own vocal accompaniment,
similar to the pieces in his new CD release "Romancing the Sitar".
This CD features light classsical vocal pieces with sitar, and the
accompaniment of various Indian percussion instruments.
This is very much a new and unique approach to the presentation of
Indian Classical Music to the widest possible audience, including
Classical Music enthusiasts as well as those with little or no
familiarity with Classical Indian Music.
Music critics in Bombay hailed this as a "new classical idiom",
and this will be the first time Irshad Khan will be presenting
this outside India, in a live concert setting.
Copies of the CD will be available at the concert, or can be obtained

This programme is being made possible with the support of the Canada
Council and Ontario Arts Council.
