The Statesman, Kolkata, December 20: Renowned vocalist Dipali Nag died
at her son’s residence at Gandhinagar in Gujarat today after prolonged
illness. She was 87. She is survived by her son.
Born in Agra on 22 February 1922, she completed her master degree in
English. The daughter of JC Taluqdar, a well known historian of Indian
Mughal period, she was trained under Basheer Khan and Tassaduq Hussain
Khan and later by Faiyaz Khan the Agra Gharana. Nag started to
broadcast at All India Radio (AIR) in 1939 and hosted various mehfils
at her residence. She studied Western music at the Trinity College,
London and also gave lectures abroad.
She has also set up a Sangeet Research Academy known as Saptasur in
the year 1962. She also wrote a biography on the on Ustad Faiyaz Khan
during her lifetime.
She recieved the prestigious Bangiya Parishad Award and CV Raman
Award. A distinguished torchbearer of the Agra gayaki, she has a
number of publications to her credit and has been a critic in various
newspapers.
