SRI VEKNATESWARA ANNAMACHARYA SOCIETY OF AMERICA (SVASA)
SVASA is organizing the concert tour of Sri G. Balakrishna Prasad
(Annamacharya Project, Tirupati) in the West Coast during 15 October to 12
November. Accompaniments are G. Gopalakrishna (Violin) and M. P. Ramesh
(Mridangam) both from India.
Sri Garimella Balakrishna Prasad is gifted with a rich and melodious voice
with absolute clarity and with full of devotion. He is a Special Grade
Artist at Annamacharya Project, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams, Tirupati.
Sri Balakrishna Prasad had his initial training under his parents Smt.
Krishnaveni and Sri Narasimharao. Though he was initiated into the realm
of classical music by his parents, he was greatly inspired in his childhood
by the stirring music of Sri Mangalampalli Bala Murali Krishna. Sri
Balakrishna Prasad also spent some time in learning music from Sangitha
Samrat M. S. Bala Subramanya Sarma. His tutelage under the eminent
vocalist Sangitha Kalanidhi Sri Nedunuri Krishnamurthy shaped his future
career. Sri Balakrishna Prasad learnt a number of Annamacharya
Sankirthanas from him.
In March 1997, Sri Balakrishna Prasad performed a unique "Sankirtana
Yagnam" in Visakhapatnam where he sang 216 compositions of Annamacharya in
seven sittings, no less than 30 Sankirtanas in each sitting of four hours.
He performed in many TV Programs and had the honor to share the background
singing with M. S. Subbulaxmi in the "Sri Vari Brahmothsavams" video
cassette produced by TTD. He has the distinction of composing nearly 200
Krithis, Varnam, Thillana etc. in Carnatic classical style and is acclaimed
as a Vaggeyakara. Balakrishna Prasad has also several publications of
musical works to his credit. He published "Annamacharya Sankirtana Swara
Samputi" which contains 40 Sankirtanas of Annamacharya with musical
notations set to tune by himself, and "Annamacharya Sankirtana Manjari"
(both are bought out under the aegis of Annamacharya Project of TTD). He
also published "Krishna Ravali" in two volumes which contains a collection
of his devotional and other lyrics. In 1995, he released "Anjaneya Krithi
Mani Mala", a garland of his 21 devotional compositions to Lord Hanuman,
which he set to tune.
Possessed with superb musical talents, Sri Balakrishna Prasad is a hidden
treasure of music which is yet to be uncovered.
Sri Garimella Gopalakrishna, younger brother of Sri Balakrishna Prasad,
has certified training in Violin and Veena. He created a world record by
performing a violin recital for 30 continuous hours.
Sri Maremanda Parimala Ramesh is the Asthana Vidwan at Annamacharya
Project, Tirupati. He was trained under the Mridanga Vidwan Sri Yella
Venkateswararao and also under Sri K. Veerabhadrarao. Sri Ramesh is a Gold
Medalist in the All India Youth festival in 1991. This young musician
participated in a number of music festivals all over India and won may
awards to his credit.
