This is with reference to Art's post about Rag Pratiksha / bhupeshwari

Hridaynath Mangeshkar's song "malavun Tak deep" is based on (in fact
is almost a photocopy of ) a Mehdi Hasan gazal "abke Hum Bichhade"
(Art - I have Malavun Tak Deep - if you want a copy let me know)

Ths Mehdi Hasan gazal is much older than HM song Therefore the song
can not be the original inspiration of a Raga.

Also I once asked a friend of mine who happened to have sung with HM, about
this song. He told me that it was based on a raga called Vibhavari. I earlier sent a query on this group about Vibhavari which remains uanswered.

So is Vibhavari a third claimant for Rajan's scale ?

Why not? I can't actually find anything about Vibhavari -- no
references in recordings or books. But there are two rags which could
be combined to produce both the notes and the name of Vibhavari, namely:

Shobhavari : S R m P d
Vibhas (Bv): S r G P d

Just take the shuddh R from Shobhavari, and the shuddh G from Vibhas,
and you're all set. Better than calling it "Shobhas", I guess.
