if you can't get down w/ his rhyme styles i'm sure you can get into his
beats, he has a love for music that really shines through in his production.

Hip-hop for people who don't like or listen to hip-hop.
One for the white belt/trucker cappers.
Uber nerd rap.
Terrible.

Wow, that's a new one.

I can't verify this, but are we blaming rappers for the
audience they attract now?
>Uber nerd rap.
Nah, just nerd rap. You obviously haven't heard
uber-nerd yet or not enough to be able to make a
distinction.
>Terrible.
Haven't heard his new album, but... that kid shows
some true dedication to late '80s rap, he gets props
over here (at Matt's).
Matt
Feel free to use it. It's not new to me - I've used it a few times. There
are a few people who make that kind of hip-hop that indie rock kids feel ok
to listen to and seem to revel in it by making only that kind of music -
GLC, Edan, Beasties, Ugly Duckling...

Unless it's aimed at them, no. Still denotes a reason why I'm not a fan of
Edan.

I have. I honestly would class him as Uber nerd rap. Him, Paul Barman and
Shake Ya Caboose dude should make a supergroup or something.

Thing is, I can listen to late 80's rap and think how much a herb Edan is.
Trendy trucker cap wearing HERB.
how much edan have you heard? or are you basing this solely on his
image (which ill admit doesnt do him any favours)? i'll agree that some
of it is like that but hes got some nice beats and a wicked turn of
phrase.
although the amount of broadsheet love this new album is getting over
here is worrying, no doubt, but im up for it.
pass the duffer top.
To be brutally honest, Edan is someone that I haven't been able to listen to
more than a snippet of. Every now and then, I'll listen to a snippet of one
of his tracks online, and they really haven't spurred me on to investigate
more as I've not really liked what I've heard. The "uber nerd rap"
classification comes not solely on his image (partly though, I have to
admit), but also from what I've read and heard.
We're in 2005 now. If I wanted to hear hip-hop that sounded like it was made
in the late 80's, I'd listen to some quality hip-hop that was made in the
late 80's!
If you (or Matt) think I've got him wrong, YSI me something that will change
my perception. I'm always willing to give people another go (case in point -
Perceptionists)
> although the amount of broadsheet love this new album is getting over

I don't care if the broadsheets like it, if its good. Broadsheets only
usually like hip-hop that hip-hop fans don't really like.
> pass the duffer top.
Now duffer tops aint too bad...white belts, Ramones T-Shirts and wearing
things because 'they're ironic' are..
ok but i dont think everything he does has that sound and from a
rhyming perspective its light years away.

all ive got digital is his verse on dwight spitz. what you really want
is an mp3 of mic manipulator.
i'll see if i can sort it.

exactly, thats why im worried about this new album.

theyre the west london equivalent, i feel...its all trendies whatever
way you cut it.

I was being sarcastic. I believe I first heard the term applied
to acts like Arrested Development and Disposable Heroes of
Hiphoprisy.
But anyway, ponder this:
Take your average kid who needs his mixtape fix, listening
to what I consider largely subpar NY thug rap. So now I
propose to this kid: Hey, why don't you check out some
G Rap & Polo "Live and Let Die" or EBAR "Don't Sweat
the Technique," which he dismisses with, Nah, I can't get
with that type of stuff, it's too old, it doesn't sound right,
etc.
We might as well put them into the above category if
they're so close-minded.
What about people who EXCLUSIVELY listen to rap
that charts. Whatever origin, whether Lil' Flip or Fiddy,
as long as the media conglomerates hype it, they eat it
up, disregarding anything that may not seem as popular.
Do they really 'like' or 'listen' to hip-hop in your opinion?

Yeah, that's nerd rap to me. Uber-nerd are people with a
holier-than-thou attitude who feel superior because they
think they don't have to 'flow', don't have to 'rhyme', as it's
all strictly self-expression and whoever doesn't understand
them is not on their level. Or at least these are some of
the arguments some of their fans make in defense of them.
Matt
Prolly not, but the two poles aren't mutually exclusive and both are as
annoying to me as an across the board hip-hop fan.

Word.
You should check him. I put him in the silly/funny grouping.
He's a bit geeky, but Pete still needs to relax.

have been for a while, i thought...
I do like his producing from time to time.
I'm not really into his mic play, to be honest. At least not since i
cared about Co-Flo.
