Funny M.O.P. story

Didn't know I'd start such controversy by vetoing M.O.P. They just
happen to suck in my opinion. But the funniest thing I ever witnessed
was them opening up for Mixmaster Mike at the Hollywood Athletic Club.

There were NO black people there (yes I am honestly saying NO - although
there may have been 1 or 2 in disguise, but on the real - I didn't see
one black face.) Still, M.O.P. decided to start a chant which involved
the audienced shouting out "You're my niggaz" ("Who's my Niggaz?"
"YOU'RE MY NIGGAZ!") Honestly, it was hilarious - as the predominantly
white (some black and latin) crowd was very confused. It looked as if
they thought they were being set up. I could just see it on their faces
(this was a Beasties fan mainly group of people - not even many
turntablism fans.) The Orange County contingent was in full effect, and
they simply refused to say th word.

The result: MOP would yell "Who's my niggaz???" hold the mic out to the
audience, and they'd just stare back, saying nothing.

Had to be the funniest concert moment of my life.

Don't feel alone Natt, I can't stand M.O.P either. With the exception of
"Four Alarm Blaze" and "Cold as Ice" they haven't really done anything I
even consider slightly interestng.

I've read a lot of net kids talking about how dope Wariorz is and how
it's the best they've done. Well I copped it soon after it dropped to
see what all the hype was over. All I can say is if that is supposed to
be the epitome of their dopeness they need to go ahead and turn in their
mics.

MOP is like sanskrit for "Kidnap that Foo"

I've had that line in my head all day.

MOP is kindof like Limp Bizkit. It's dumb, you know it's dumb, but
sometimes you really need to hear something dumb and loud. It's like bad
metal for hip-hop heads or something.

LMAO I can just see those three little pricks cowering in the corner
with their manager asking "What the hell have you done to us, are we
going to die?" For some reason I just can't stop laughing at the mental
picture I get reading that little tid bit of news.

My question is what in the hell was their management thinking about when
they put this together? I mean come on this doesn't even sound like a
good combo. Wel it might be better if it's really an M.O.P song with LFO
on the hook. Nah never mind that would stil suck major nuttage.

M.O.P. is cool, but lately I've just been getting sick of them. It's all the
same old same old. And face it, M.O.P. without Primo is essentially
unlistenable(First Family For Life anyone?)

But as to their best album, that would have to be Firing Squad easily. Primo
just brought out the grimy gutter beats for that one.

Warriorz had potential to be their best, but there seems to be a lot of filler
on it. Maybe if they took out like 5 or 6 songs from it. Oh and Cold as Ice
sucks ass. I don't get what people see in that track.

That's like saying Method Man got removed from a song on Vanilla Ice's

Unproveable? The artist themselves can easily confirm whether or not this is
true. No, I haven't heard Prodigy or MOP comment on the situation, but since he
is on the same label, and had an LP droppin' at the same, I don't think it's
that inconceivable either. Well, what I said before is what I've heard
repeatedly here in New York. Take it as you wish . . .

Please no one be offended by this.....but maybe some need to turn off the
computers and mingle every once in a while. Esp. those who are in the
music industry or have aspirations to be. Even if you don't like what the
"general population" is listening to....as an MC, DJ, producer etc. you
should at least be aware of it. To me that's like an aspiring

This is ironic, I think this all the time of people on the net. Ironic because
it's at least partially directed at me, since I'm one of the MOP not-knowers.

You took it wrong. Me and all my friends are REALLY into rap music, I mean
that's what we talk about the most. And NOBODY mentions M.O.P. I know many
people watch Rap City, but it's ignored, nobody is into it. I KNOW most of
their popularity is on the East Coast. No West Coast video shows play MOP,
but Rap City, a primarily East Coast show, does. Ever noticed how on Rap
City, MOP is just MOP, but Xzibit or Snoop is "representin for the West" or
the "West Coast act"...

I'm out all the time. And I'm VERY aware of what the "general population"
is listening to, but most listening to M.O.P. are on the East Coast, and I
don't know anybody on the West Coast that are into M.O.P. I know they
exist, but I've never met any of 'em.

There is a track with MOP, Mobb Deep and Kool G. Rap called "Know the Game" on
the Frankie Cutlass album. It is very dope indeed.

what? All Rap City plays are west coast and down south/mid west videos.

All the West Coast videos I've seen on Rap City the past two months:

-"Loosen Control" - Snoop
-"Front 2 Back" - Xzibit
-"Until The End Of Time" - 2pac
-"Best U Can" - Tha Liks

That's IT for the West. The south doesn't get much more than that,
either...

When you really think of it, it's the same w/ the east. The main east
coast acts that seem to get regular rotation right now are Jay-Z, Ja Rule,
Eve, Foxy and G-dep. Missy's from Maryland (I think????). Still east
coast but I really consider that southern. I think rap city is
semi-balanced when it comes to the different regions.

(But to be truthful, I've never actually sat and counted how many videos
from each region they play. Somebody will probably count tomorrow and come
back to tell me how wrong I am....)

I gotcha. But I think that type of thing goes on everywhere. I'll be
honest, we don't always get exposed to a lot of west coast stuff outside of
the big dogs like Dre, Snoop & pac and now Xzibit. But even though some
stuff doesn't get played here that often and no one talks about it as much,
we are still aware that certain west coast artists exist. DJ Quick, Daz
Dillenger and E-40 are good examples. Hardly any airplay in the east.
Would anyone have issues if I made some of the claims about them that some
tried to make of MOP?

I think the producers of Rap City just sit down at a table and pick out the
wackest videos to show.

I would have issues, because it's not the same thing.

I see it like this:

MOP - Popular in their region but not much anywhere else

DJ Quik, Daz & E-40 - Popular in their respective regions and everywhere else,
except POSSIBLY parts of the east coast (I would guess that two out of the
three most likely have gotten AT LEAST radio rotation, if not street
popularity, even in NYC metro area)

and I don't think MOP comes close to them in sales, so it's a thin arguement.

There's some west coast groups better suited to make your point I think, I just
can't think of any right now, too late.

That might have been true back in the "To the Death" days but if you
listen to "Firing Squad", "First Family 4 Life" or +especially+
"Warriorz" and can still tell me that Onyx albums had better beats, I
think you're smoking some heavily laced woolies.
