Ghetto superstar, that is what you are
Coming from afar, reaching for the stars
Run away with me, to another place
We can rely on each other, uh-huh
From one corner, to another, uh-huh
And from the duet "Islands In the Stream":
Islands in the stream, that is what we are
No one in between, how can we be wrong
Sail away with me, to another world
And we rely on each other, uh-huh
From one lover to another, uh-huh
Still don't believe me? The music is EXACTLY the same. "Islands In the
Stream" is available on any of the following albums:
The Essential Dolly Parton

A Decade Of Hits
Kenny Rogers
$9.49
Greatest Hits

I'm no great fan of country or rap, but when one is stealing from the other .
. . that's just sad, not to mention pitiful.

WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN FOR THE LAST 20 Years???
Rap Music is not really a style of music as much as it is an art of
combining samples with poetry (simply put w/o the hype and politics).
A dj and and emcee is what rap is. Some rap singles use beat samples
and any medley is either freshly written or sampled. Or in the case of
Ghetto Superstar the medley is reworked with new lyrics to fit the message
of the rap. Have you listened to alot of rap singles? Or looked at the
linear notes? There is usually a credit given for the song that they used
a sample or medley from. Even R+B songs. Look at Janet Jackson's albums and
you will see on several songs credits for other songs. Sometimes 3 songs!
There is nothing wrong with this if they give credit.
Besides Islands in the Stream was written by the Bee-Gees. They were
pop-disco and wrote a huge country crossover hit. Sure not everyone likes to
hear their favorite old song turned into a rap song. But alot of times if you
looked at hip-hop liner notes you would be amazed at the amount of them that
use bits from other songs. Again: Where have you been?
The question in today's music industry is not whether you have good ideas and
you're a good musician/ producer, the question is if you're able to be on the right
places at the right times and if you have a good marketing-stab in your back (that
has a large collection of late 70's/80's hits)... Sounds more like movie-business
to me...
Common Rap today is so uninspiring and unentertaining. I wish there would be more
people like Krush, or even Camp Lo or Mobb Deep if you want.
Just my two cents...

Welcome to Hip Hop! You must be new, for future reference this is called
SAMPLING.

I TOTALLY DISAGREE!!! rap/hip hop is very much a style of music, some have
siad its the first popular post modernist music form of the 20th century
Is there a diffrence between rap and hip hop..yes and no... just becuase
rap/hip hop (along with most other deance music forms as techno, drum n
bass, and house) utilize the sample and sample contstruction. i think the
most successful sampling is not the puff daddy kind of sampling which IS a
total rip off of someone elses work, its taking an old peice of work and
reworking it into an entirely new context. take the amazing DJ Shadow
album, entirely made of other peoples sounds and records, but mixed and
layered in such an inventive and new way, they are entirely new
compositions of thier own merit
of course there is Hype is hip hop/rap (puffy, mase) and there is politics
(public enemy)..perhaps it didnt start out that way, but its become that
way.
and believe it or not, there is some rap that utilizes entirely new music,
and doesnt rely on samples.
people say htere are no new ideas on planet earth, its how you arrange
them into something diffrent and new whcih keeps things interesting.

Get a life man! So you trying to tell me that it has take you like three months
to work out that Ghetto Superstar is a remake. Shit! Everyone knows the tune and
it should have hit you the first time you listened to the song that it was not
origial. So stop fussing about it and find some other news group to harrass.
