Mac Dre was the shit, but I haven't liked any of his new projects too
much. "Rapper Gone Bad" was ok, his comp. "The Rompilation 2" sucked,
and his group project with PSD and Dubee (Cutthoat Committee) was
pretty lackluster too. I haven't been into 40's stuff for a while
either.

To me, Mac Mall has been the most consistent rapper out of Vallejo.
Although, I got bored of his last 2 cd's a little quicker than I
expected. (oh yeah, his compilation sucked ass too).

What about the latest Cutthroat Committee that just came out like last

Joyce (LovelyBlaqGyrl) told me essentially the same thing. She said
E-40 is an ex-patriate who doesn't even rep his former hood anymore
and doesn't get a lot of love in the V. In fact she said a lot of
people there thought his last album was HELLA square. This was all
news to me, and made me feel out of touch for still liking 40-Wata.

Yeah, IB2000, and Immaculate. When Immaculate first dropped I bumped
the hell out of it, but then I got some backlash and lost a little
interest. It's still a pretty tight cd to me though--I threw it in
today and it's a cool cd. My favorite tracks are: Shakin' in the
Alley, Some More of It (with the music from the YBB classic "I'm a
Hog" by Dubee), Higher than Hubble, and The Man Upstairs.

Yeah, that song is tight. All those old Young Black Brotha Records
releases were pretty dope--Mac Dre, Mac Mall, Ray Luv, Dubee, Young
Lay--They all dropped some bomb shit. Khayree was fucking shit up on
the tracks too. I heard he might try and hook up with Ray Luv again
for another cd--I hope it happens.

I don't know where he is now, but Khayree was dope as FUCK on the early Young
Black Brotha albums. The production on Mac Mall's first album was off the
hinges, and Young Lay's first joint was a heater too. Compare it to Young Lay's
second joint, without Khayree on the beats, and you hear a HUGE difference.
Still though, to me, none of the Yay rappers can touch early Brotha Lynch Hung.

Ok, alot of people kinda was hot at 40 because he tells everyone he's from
Oakland, and he is from V-town . V-town put him up, and always repped e-4o.
Then when he blew up Oakland Oakland Oakland is what fell out of his mouth. No

Well let me clarify this whether v-town thought it was wack or not I can't say.
Now in L. A. which is what I was talking about we find all his shit now WACK,
we find most the shit the bay do Old school. That popping ya collar shit, etc
we been did that. It's funny but The no-cal and so-cal are like two different
states. It's like totally different planets. Alot of the no cals find l.a. a
little played, and here the feeling is mutual. I mean I love to visit out

Coming from a long time 40 fan, I've never heard him say anything about
being from Oakland. I hear him spelling out Vallejo in his songs and stuff,
but never the Big O.

That is pretty interesting how that division occurs. Not just in
music, but in many aspects of everyday life. I was thinking about
heading down to the L.A. area for school, but after a few visits, I've
been having second thoughts.

As far as the rap goes, I know a lot of people who share the basic
opinion you've stated--L.A. people are bored with the bay, and Bay
people are bored with L.A. (myself included).

Just thought that was interesting.

I live in the Bay, and most of my friends feel that way; they're down to visit
L.A. for a few days, but then after that they wanna get the fuck outta there.
On the other hand, I am seriously considering packing up and moving to Southern
Cali after I graduate college next year. I much prefer the warm weather there
to the shit we put up with in the Frisco area, and I just like the feel down
there better. Maybe it's the weather, but I just feel more laid-back there.
Then again, could be because I'm on vacation ;)

The beats are ill as fuck, and Lynch is so damn hungry. Yes, it's classic. He
actually had material out before then which you can probably find re-released
now, with SicX...the album is called N*gga Deep, and has some dope production
on it as well.

Never really got into dude, just wasn't my thing.

When it comes to Sacto, it's always been all about C-Bo (and his sister
Marveless, to a lesser degree) for me.

He's like one of the original post-NWA gangsta rappers. "Gas Chamber" (his
first album, 1990 I think) made massive moves on the street, even before AWOL
got statewide distribution thru SMG.

Dope, dope album too.

My tape disintegrated, but I found a lot of it on Napster.

Brotha Lynch Hung sounded like a demented Mix-A-Lot to me, at least on his
second album.

Like many artists, his old shit is a lot better.

Check out anything from "Gas Chamber", "Tales From The Crypt" and "The
Autopsy"(EP).

C-Bo is a certified nut, just for talking all that Crip shit on records.

He lives in the only Crip hood in Sacto, that's literally surrounded by a sea
of red, (ie, the rest of Sacramento)

How many niggas use real bullets when filming the "gangbang" scene of a music

It's especially impressive when you consider when it came out (1990 or '91?)

Production is incredible. Listen to how they flipped "The Message" so much
more creatively than Cube's months later "Check Yourself Before You Wreck
Yourself" remix, not to mention Puffy's more recent "You Can't Touch
This-esque" usage of the sample.

They (Mike Mosely, Sam Bostic, etc; who later achieved greater fame by
producing E-40 through his formative years and beyond) actually use it twice on
the Gas Chamber LP, but the more notable usage is "Survival In The Garden"

nope, not me

I've been supporting/listening to/big-upping/serving as walking talking
advertisement for/ C-Bo for approx. 10 years now. I could name 25 C-Bo songs
off the top off my head, met his twin-sister Marveless through my
ex-girlfriend's half-brother about 7 years ago (she used to battle him in
junior high) and met C-Bo himself at the Gavins in '94, I think. I can safely

the industry, then I haven't heard of him yet (not that that's an admirable

Aww man Josh, that was you? Dude you +don't+ know what you're missing.
But then, there are people who think Guru isn't dope just on his vocal
tone alone - maybe this is one of those type situations. Heh, what fun
would it be if we liked the same artists anyway? I'm sure you can turn

What about X-Raided though? That dude takes "keep it real" to a whole
new level - I read an article that said he laid the vocals for an entire
album on the phone in the day room, listening to the instrumentals and
rapping on the spot. I need to pick up one of his albums, but he's got
so many out I can't even decide which one. Any recommendations?

eh, Mac Dre did TWO entire albums that way.

umm, not really. The only one I really know is the first album, which because
of the cover which had a photograph of a gun that belonged to a COP and been
used to SHOOT A COP. this enabled him to:

>laid the vocals for an entire

as you described earlier, for his 2nd album if I remember correctly.

Real gangstas who rap should have to pass some kind of mandatory IQ test before
being allowed to sign a record deal. Short list of rappers who went to jail
for something they said/showed on a record:

Mac Dre
C-Bo
Rated X

and for that matter, short list of rappers who got killed for something they
said on a record:

Seagram Miller

and there ain't nothing funny about that shit

Mac Dre has done this too.

I don't know much about X-Raided solo, but earlier in this thread I recommended
a Lynch/X album to Fatty.

Naw man, I've heard hella C-Bo. I just haven't gotten into it like I have
with others. Man the beats bang on his albums, too...does he produce 'em or
what?

DAMN. Now +that's+ gangsta. (Also, very VERY fucked up.)

Actually, I thought C-Bo was on parole and got locked up BECAUSE he
released a gangsta rap record; which violated his terms of probation.
I remember the ACLU took up the cause and the prison backed down after
they turned up the heat - the parole agreement was unconstitutional.

I didn't know that was what caused his demise, and I'm kind of surprised
to learn he got shot over something he said on record - I figured it was
just some street shit or beef shit like what touched Big L. What exactly
was it that got somebody to snuff him?

> and there ain't nothing funny about that shit

I doubt anybody would claim any rapper getting shot is funny. :(

You're not busy, are you?

Oh yeah, take it to e-mail, I don't want anyone to think I'm frontin' on some
"oooooh, I know someone from VALLEJO, I must be really, really tough and scary
or something" type shit, because we all know about big, bad notorious-ass
VALLEJO, lol

Thank you for totally destroying my efforts to prove that Mac Dre OWNED
Vallejo, I bow down to your greatness.....

It's hot all over. Channel 7 and stupid ass Spencer Christian said it was
record breaking (but aint it every other week?)...btw, I hate Spencer
Christian. I liked other dude that left a lot better.

Lemme pull an album and look..
* C-Bo, "Til My Casket Drops": Executive Producer, Freddie "T" Smith;
various producers on each track.. BC for AWOL Records, One Drop Scott for
AWOL, JT the Bigga Figga, DJ Darryl, Ric Roc, Mike Mosley.. actually it
kinda reads like a who's who of hella bump shit.

It should be a certified banger from coast to coast. I'm gonna shoot
it up to the top ten on OHHLA next week whether radio and BET are gonna
bump it or not.

Anyone digging on Reek Daddy? He's another Vallejo artist that has
done some stuff with Mac Dre, etc. He recorded a solo that never got
released, but made it's way to the internet. Some of my friends love
his shit, but I've been sleeping on him. Any Bay Area peoples have
any info on whether he's coming out with something new?

heh-heh, you just said "Reek Daddy"

That's got to be the worst name since "Shunny Pooh"

Nothing to do with his name, I'm sure

Never heard of him, but I'll check for it.

If PIMP...@aol.com sees this, I can almost guarantee you he will have a
wealth of information on......um, the Reekster.

and if he doesn't see this in a few days, go ahead and e-mail him, he's
friendly like that.
