After poking around Network Solutions for a while tonight, I
discovered that a certain well known and well liked rapper on
RMHH (no not AesopRock) has never registered his own handle
as a domain name nor had anybody register it on his behalf.
Considering that nearly every other rapper I can think of
has already had their name registered even if there isn't
a website to go with it, I was admittedly surprised by this.

This leaves me with a dilemma. I am a fan of (blank) and have
been for more than a few years now. In fact as early as 1993
I bought his albums from people on the newsgroups because where
I lived you couldn't find his ish in stores and there was no
such thing as CDNow or Sandbox Automatic in those days. It
occurs to me one of four possibilities is open to me here:

1. I could register (blank).com and run it on my own as a
fan-based website by/for/about (blank).
2. I could register (blank).com and turn it over to (blank)
when approached by the artist - I wouldn't try to milk
(blank) I would just hold it so OTHER people don't try
to ransom it off to (blank) for a ridiculous sum.
3. I could completely ignore this and let (blank).com
go under the wire and hope the wrong people don't take it.
4. I could try to contact (blank) directly through his
record label and inform him he should go register (blank).com
before somebody else does.

I'm sitting here with my finger poised on the "register this
domain" button, figuratively speaking. Opinions anybody?

4. is the righteous thing to do. 2. is the good neighbor. but since your
not blanks neighbor 3 is also good. not much wrong with 1 if 4 dont
work, but doing 4, you should always leave space for 2.

now Im off to figure out who blank is so I can do the fuck part of 2.
just playing

btw, ftp for sound on rmhh.com is a good idea

I would register it, Flash. Register it, let him and/or his record
comapny know about it and offer it back to them. Then, if they don't
want, you can use it for a fan page.

This cyber-squatting shit is mad weak. I heard people are registering
famous people's names and then offering it back to them at some inflated
price. Does anyone have a sense of honor and fair-play anymore?

I long for the days when makin a buck required a bit of effort.

But I wonder who it is... You're gonna tell us later, right?

Yep, buy the site. And contact them afterwards. They might want to pay you
to keep it up and running!

Anyway, e-mail me to tell me who it is!

Peace

Ahhh man, you know what you should do...
but it for cheap now, and then when Blank
gets big a couple years down the road, you
should sell it back to his record company
for cash money money!

Some guy did this with all the major corporation
names (i.e. Coca Cola, Pepsi, Mcdonalds, etc.)
when the internet was just starting out and made
millions! what a good idea.

Peace,
Fee

They've since made that illegal though.. I can't remember exactly which
company it was with, but I remember a lawsuit being fought over this cause
within the last couple years of some guy demanding oodles of money for a
domain and the company took it to the judge and the guy had to give it up
for much less than he had anticipated.

You might want to check with the artists first before you mp3 and post
them. For example that MICRANOTS track was not really meant to be mp3,
just a tasty treat for the Comp.
