So he's kind of like Weird Al Yankovic? Any similar?

It's more like a freakshow if you ask me. People laugh at him, more
than with him. One of my co-workers brought his lp in, and I just
didn't get it. He can't carry a tune. And I don't mean in a death
metal kinda way, I mean in he's trying to sing but can not.

to each his own

yup, exactly. the man is mentally ill. as someone else said, he thinks
his fans actually like his music. i thought it was funny the first time i
heard it, but then i realized that's like laughing at someone having an
epileptic seizure. shit isn't funny.

The best way to describe him IMO is he's like biz when biz tries to sing,
except he's mentally ill.

it's definitely a freakshow. i listened to his music alone
for a while and bugged out and then played it for a few
people and then we bugged out, but not until i saw the
heads coming out to the shows did i start to get turned off
with the whole thing. especially in portland, oregon...

pasty white indie-rockers basically coming to laugh at
a mildly retarded black man. i was like, "fuck these people". i was
initially captivated by the music because
i thought it was something new, something crazy, but
the people going to his shows (at least from my experiences) coming their to
laugh at wes willis. it's sad,
but indeed he did put himself there so again, to each
his own.

I checked this shit out and it was aiight, not my cup of tea though. But
when I was researching him a bit I found out about Daniel Johnston, who is a
lot like Wes. I'm not really into both, but I thought I would pass some
information along for people who are digging Wesley.

Daniel is honestly a genius. Some of the shit he says is quite deep. Now if
you wanna check his music out, its definitely not for his singing ability
but more for the subject material. Maybe go to a search engine and do a
search for his name. Again, this isn't really my thing but whoever is
diggin' Wes should check Daniel out.

Pass along your opinions....

I agree with this wholeheartedly. And honestly, he really didn't put himself
in this position. Jello Biafra (who is actually more a a snake bastard than
most snake bastards) "scouted" him on the streets of Chicago, where he was more
than happy just selling his tapes to people. I was Biafra's idea to take the
joke on the road (and make lots of money for Jello.) I guess now Rick Rubin is
milking Wesley for his 15 minutes. Sad thing is, when the joke wears thin,
what's going to happen to Willis? The guy actually believes he's a star. I
wonder if any of these god samaritan record prodeucers have placed any money in
a trust fund for him. Probably not.

By the way, these same indie rock kids are now showing up in droves to see The
Kids of Widney High, a novelty group composed of students from an L.A. High
School for retarded kids. Sick thing is that it's some teacher who used to
have dreams of being a rock star who writes the music (they write the lyrics)
and books them at venues where shithead punk rockers can laugh at them. I
actually knew some of these kids back when I worked in a group home, and they
are nice kids... but they are very developmentally delayed, and I doubt they
know that people are laughing AT them. In that case it is the teacher at
fault, just like Jello pretty much deserves the blame for exploiting Wesley.

Is anybody besides me starting to wonder if Wesley Willis was the
inspiration for the "Timmer" episode of South Park where he becomes
the lead of a local garage rock band and is exploited by everyone?

Eerie parallels,
