Hi,
how y'all feel out there?

I am currently searching for nice Hip Hop songs for my gal which plays
the flute.
I have some titles so far, but still missing a lot...

Maybe ya folks got some Titles/Artists for me?

Here's my list so far, just to give you an impression of what kind of
music I'm into...

The Alkaholiks - The Flute Song (LaLaLa)
Talib Kweli - Listen!!!
Army of the Pharaos - Seven (not sure if this is a flute sample at
all)
Dead Prez - Behind Enemy Lines
Dead Prez - We Want Freedom
Jaylib - One For Dilla (Interlude)
Jurassic 5 - High Fidelity
Jurassic 5 - If You Only Knew
Jurassic 5 - Remember His Name (at least it's some kind of flute-like
sound)
...

Any help appreciated.

Peace,
Prof.P

I seem to remember this topic being discussed a couple of years ago.
Just google the archive for flute. You should find more there.

Kero One - The Cycle Repeats
Ghostface Killah - The Forest
Consequence - And You Say
will.i.am - Nah Mean
DJ Vadim - Like The Wind
Craig G & Marley Marl - Made The Change
Jean Grae - Swing Blades
Camp Lo - Suga Willie's Revenge

I think Alchemist and Madlib are producers to look for
when it comes to flutes.

What? No. It's not. It has some proper horrible shit on it. "Silent
Murder" is good though, and "Take It In Blood". Oh and "The Message".
It's not a patch on Illmatic. Not in a million billion squillion

Aged very badly. That and Southernplaycadillacmuzick. Can't to
either except 2-3 songs off of each.

From 93-94, Wu, Ready to Die, and Chronic shine.

Even Cuban Linx and Tha Infamous (Mobb Deep) are better than Illmatic,
though those were 95.

To go back on-topic, how about "Big Pimpin" Jay-Z.

What? No. Southernplayalistitoolong has a lot of great tracks. Hootie
Hoo is still the best Outkast track. Maybe.

Chronic is really eh to me these days. I might listen to 3 tunes on
it. Tops.

and they aren't better than Illmatic. Liquid Swords might be, if it's
a cold day outside and you've got it on phones. Cuban Linx has too
much Raekwon on it to be all that good and The Infamous is half
brilliant half some songs.

There are better albums than Illmatic just not perhaps any of the
similar ones. :-)

C'mon on, man. Iww has
* Street Dreams (!!)
* The Message (Ok, wack beat, but anyway, nice, fluent, solid stuff)
* I gave you power (!!) - c'mon, this is crazy story tellin' shit, a story
told from the perspective of a gun,
now beat this!
* Even like Watch Dem Niggaz with sexy Foxy
* Affirmative Action, nice QB shit style, love this stuff! (Ok, luvin MD
anyway)
* Shootouts (like the piano loops)
* Live Nigga Rap (QB is in the house; cold chillin' with this one)
* Silten Murder kicks ass

Illmatic has
* N.Y. State Of Mind - probably one of the best rap songs of all times (for
me); this piano loop got me completely. sends shivers down my spine.
* Life's a bitch - weak
* The World Is Yours - OK
* One Love - Nice, but cheap hook
* One Time 4 your Mind - Yeah, QB's representin'. Luv the melody on this
one. Pretty little gem.
* It ain't hard to tell - nah...middle-rate

So, to me, definitive more score for Iww.

I still enjoy it as a full LP. I probably enjoy it more each summer
than the last. But it's a summer album, wheras, like you say, Liquid
Swords is for those damn freezing days when you're stuck on an ice-
cold commuter train with frosted up windows. Until maybe 3 years ago,
perhaps 5, Liquid Swords was the shit to me. Now unless I'm on said
commute - which fortunately I don't have to do anymore - I program the
CD to play only "Labels" and "Shadowboxin". Timeless.

Illmatic, one my favouritist album, has been supplanted recently by
Breaking Atoms. I was incredibly late to the Main Source party - I
think I got this in like 2001/02 - but it really does blow me away
time after time.

If there's any track on Illmatic which - just for arguments sake - I
don't like, it's got to be 'One Time For Your Mind'. But I don't skip
it, it's more than tolerable. Everything else is, imo, outstanding.
'NY State of Mind' and 'The World is Yours' are definite highlights.
'Life's a Bitch' and 'One Love' are both exceptionally solid tracks!
If a song like either of those dropped right now, people would be
jocking. Fantastic, _though_ perhaps a little overplayed for those
amongst us who can recite every lyric and anticipate every nuance of
the whole LP, having listened to it hundreds of times. They've
definitely stood the test of time, though. The last verse of 'One
Love' ("sometimes I sit back with a buddha sack...") is mindblowing.

IWW has some fantastic songs, but also a whole load of crap thrown in
for good measure. This album never held my attention very well. I
prefer 'God's Son', even, which all things considered I'm not very
fond of.

Southernplayalistic has aged phenomenally IMO. Even better than
atliens, which was my longtime 'kast fave doesnt stand up to
Southerplayalistic.

I dont skip a track on that joint and it takes me 3 hours to get to
the end because i keep rewinding.

exactly. If kurupt is super raw on a cut, or if it features the
narrator RBX i might listen but the rest of that album is skip city.

There's no such thing as too much raekwon unless it's after the year
2001 when hes recording his verse. Liquid swords instrumental is the
best thing ever, but the emceeing is zzzzzzzzzz

wait wait wait... you think "illmatic" aged badly? that's totally
crazy. i didn't even pick up on illmatic until 99 or 2000, and i still
think it's classic status is totally deserved.

"infamous" is better than "it was written", but definitely not better
than "illmatic". same for OB4CL, i guess.

the beat was what first caught my attention about it.

crazy. all these songs are great. that's the thing about illmatic for
me, it's not my all time favorite album, but it's really really
excellent, it's concise, and there just aren't any faults i can find
with it.
