The Eminem-Everlast nonsense is certainly entertaining, but is it really
a good Hip-Hop battle? Are these MC's spitting clever lyrics at each
other? Hell no. "You're a faggot." "I fucked your wife." "I wish
you died." That's some real juvenile shit peoples.

I've always favored the more subtle dis, the one where you gotta break
it down a lil' something. You can keep the anger, but at least make
it clever. And if you've noticed, Jay-Z's been dropping a few of these
gems lately. Hova drops the dope punchlines to make it clear who he's
calling out.

Example 1) quick breakdown: Prodigy called Jay-z soft in a Source
interview, and we all know Nas has had his issues with Hova. So Jay-Z
responded on a Craig G mixtape.

(over the "Keep it Thoro" beat)
N*ggas take Hove for toilet
now my blood boil, shit, listen up...
why are all of you people ridin my nuts? uh
seems the more i try to chill the more people act up
well let me get to the point of this rap shit for yall.
i ball. bite? nah. fight? nah. shoot? yes. boot..
to ya chest push you under rocks on your roof to rest
it's god hova, you god's son. the god's soldier
so you had your respect, 'til Jay came snappin'
seems you wanna act like Jay followed you with his rapping
cmon, you was doing good being you man! what happened
why'd you adapt? why your gold chains turn platinum?
keep up the yappin' mannnnnnn y'all funny to me
and like i said before, you cant show money to me
you owe me for every word on your last lp
and the one before that, mail me 200 Gs.. A.S.A.P.,
and by the way what's with this A.S.S. P.? (whats up with this Ass P)
listen close, i don't know you, i dont know think you know me
i'll get your 6 blocks shot off the the strength of me
n*gga i drip infamy, you could never swim with me
Jay-Z muthafuck you rather swim in pee
then to tryta get stupid, i'll leave your scent putrid
catch me at the club, Hove is not illusive
he will have you screamin over the beat like on the Clue shits, dunn
i'm ruthless whenever lips is rushin' shit
see.. that's when clips might have to bust your shit
i gives a fuck where you rep. i came in the game
humble to stack chips and to build my name
paid respect to y'all but from where y'all came
to throw dirt on Hove, sit down write the aim
lesson 2.. lil' man, cmon.. back to you
its R-O-C, power moves, c'mon fuck your weak team
who's glock'll wake your block up out the street dreams?
who's the one in the optics wit' mamis steadily watching while your fans
complainin' sayin you no longer makin hot shit
get that state of mind right, concentrate on your lyrics
and not the gossip, i'd hate to have to lift your spirits.

Example 2) Jay-Z and Damon Dash are working on a film about Harlem
hustling legends Rich Porter and Alpo. Apparently Meeno from Harlem
World ("I'm That Nigga") caught feelings and said that Jay-Z was
overstepping his borough bounds. Or something to that effect. Jay-Z
responded on "My Mind Right" remix.

I got the fifth niggas, you have to pick niggas off of the ground
when I pick niggas off with the pound,
go get your click nigga, this nigga is running with clowns,
I'm a rich nigga I get you clipped at cost right now,
niggas forget niggas as soon as you coffin off in the ground,
family man, look at your kids - orphans now,
I used to just smack rappers I'm extorting them now,
taking all that supporting them now,
damn you a bitch,
nigga you sick, fronting like your tougher than what you are,
till the gun is coming through the driver side of you car, (hello)
Using my name in vain like I won't damage the boy,
think niggas was shooting your fat ass out of cannons before, (i'm that
nigga)
niggas is pompous
first they was evil kanieval jumpers,
then they turning over Rovers like they want it hova,
It ain't about Rich and 'Po nigga
its about rich and po'
Understand I'm here to get this dough,
It ain't about brooklyn or harlem, no more than it's about fame or
stardom,
It's about me being on blocks you bought from, (reppin')
Me setting myself apart from rappers who use other rappers' names
so other motherfuckers could watch them,
It's as simple as this
y'all niggas get off my dick,
I'll let you eat after I get off my bricks,
The world most dangerous click - R.O.C.
mind right bitch!"

I always figured Jigga was causally dissing people in some of his
rhymes. I mean how cold can a nigga be if he can sell rock to his
moms, and why is Damien Dash always flossing in his videos. Reminds me
of an older JD[Sorry to get of the subject].

That second one about Meeno and the whole "Evil Kneival" shit from their
first Harlem World video was pretty tight - although Meeno is so far
beneath Jigga he's hardly even worthy of being dissed by the master.
You're right though - these are better "battle" rhymes than the "you're a
faggot" - "no YOU're a faggot" shit of Eminem and Everlast.

Have you guys been followin' this? It all started when Nas said on "We
Will Survive", "And niggas claim that they NY's king? It ain't about
that", and Jay got offended, and replied in a magazine, then Nas replied
on record again on a Clue tape with a freestyle sayin', "The so-called
King of NY is dead/ he's runnin' like a bitch with his tail between his
legs/ stillmatic, still eye for an eye, you wanna be God/ but you just
the next rapper to die fuckin' with Nas". Then the shit seemed like it
was dead 'till Bleek took offense to Nas sayin' "You wanna ball 'till
you fall? I can help you with that/ you want beef? I can let a slug melt
through your hat", because Bleek had that single with the chorus sayin'
"I'm'a ball 'till I fall, what you think of that?". So Bleek replied on
"Mind Right" with "You say your life's written/ so who you supposed to
be? play your position". And Nas returns HARD on that "The Bridge 2000",
I can't even quote it off the top but he GOES OFF on that whole
Rocafella crew. I think this is what Nas needs to tell you the truth.
Anyway, I haven't copped Bleek's album yet, I'll probably get it
tomorrow, but I'm sure he's got a reply. I hope it stays lyrical but it
probably won't, someone'll get stomped out. Whassup with Clue? He used
to be on QB's dick, no he's on Rocafellas dick. Also, I noticed Nature
was in the "Mind Right" video by Bleek, I know him and Nas are on shaky
terms right now, I wonder who he'll side with. Peace.

I was more interested in the fact that 'Mega was in the video with Nas
+AND+ Nature for "Queensbridge 2000." I guess they officially squashed
it because he even made some remark akin to "Damn can you believe it?"
during his verse in the video. BTW, I'm not much for remakes but this
one is pretty hot - every dope rapper in the QB is on that shit.

Peace, Flash

Word? I haven't seen the video yet. Yeah, Mega and Nature squashed it, I
got a tape actually of 'Mega and Nature together battlin' two other
cats, underground dudes, niggas in here would probably know who they
are. I think they should remix that Bridge 2000 joint, I know it's the
classic beat and all but it really is tired, but it to rest, along with
the Symphony beat. Did you see Nas on 106 & Park with MC Shan and
Roxanne Shante? I think it's dope that he's goin' out of his way to try
to bring the pioneers of his hood back. Peace.

I know what you mean about the beat being mad old and all, but I think
the new generation of Q.B. really brings life to it. I'm sure a "remix"
is in order but as second generation old school head (not first gen or
"true school") I'm really feeling the fact they are using the old beat
for a new audience who probably has NOT heard the original "Bridge" but
probably should. I missed Nas on 106 & Park but I'm not mad at him at
all for repping Shante and MC Shan. In fact, I saw a little blurb
somewhere (maybe Spin or URB or XXL) that Shante is gonna put out a new
album in 2001; so I'd like to see if hip-hop's original "Nasty Bitch"
got somethin new for that ass. :)

Actually, he's been down with the Roc for a minute. He was in the
"Street is Watching" long form video. i thought it was comical, Jay,
Dash, and their crew were just chillin' outside the projects and he was
like "AIn't you supposed to be workin on an album?" and that was like in
97-98.

Is there beef between Roc-A-Fella and Ruff Ryders? My boi swore that
Jay's remark "3 cuts in your eyebrows/tryin' to wild out" was a direct
dis to jadakiss but I was like, he was on Jay's last album (this was when
Life and Times came out...). And I think my boi either quoted the Lox or
DMX on a diss to Roc-A-Fella, not overtly but subliminal. Jay ain't
gonna have any friends in NY if he keeps going.

Nah, Roc-a-Fella and Ruff Ryders always do shit together. Jay said in a
song "I might spit with The Lox or bark with X, but besides that I don't
even be fuckin' with cats", so you know it;s love. I heard Jay and DMX
battled on the Hard Knock Life documentary, is this true? DMX isn't a
great rapper but I can see him gettin' busy in a battle because he's got
so much energy, and intimidation is also a factor. Peace.

There's some footage from back in the day from a battle they had, but
you only see JayZ and only briefly. At the end, Jay, DMX and DMX's
manager dropped some rhymes over a beat. DMX for the time in the movie
smiled, and he looked lovely, all that pent-up tension loosened
slightly, like a hibiscus bud in first bloom.........is it lunch time
yet?

Why didn't they drop their track over 'the bridge is over'
some could say they were admitting that track won out in the bridge wars,
but wouldn't it be great if QB rhymed over the bridge is over, and
then.............

Actually QB seems to have 1 rhyme pattern and a lot of offspins.....
