I'm sure every one heard about this. It's called "D.O.E." (Death of
Escobar) it's supposed to drop next Tuesday (or maybe tomorrow). Vibe
gave it a Four our of Five. For those who don't know, it's not a new
album, it's a CD of B-Sides, unreleased songs, and freestyles that never
made it on to an album. Even those of you who don't like the "new Nas"
will wanna pick this up, because these songs are mostly songs Nas made
in his prime, and songs that were from the original "I Am" album (Poppa
was a player, Sometimes I Wonder, etc.) and those of you who don't have
the original version of "I Am" will finally get to hear those gems. I
was wondering though, does anyone have a tracklisting for this? I was
also wondering, what did everyone think of the "Q.B.'s Finest" album? I
think it's fresh. 1.

Wha? Holy shit, I gotta pick this up. With all the ranting and raving that was
going on about Nas' unreleased version of I Am, I gotta see what's up. Any word
on whether or not there will be unreleased tracks from the Illmatic era?

I'm feeling Nas' songs on QB's Finest, along with some other songs but
there are some filler songs that sound rushed.
I have to look out for DOE -thanks for the tip.

Kind regards,
Mark

Yeah, "Villian" and "Just Another Day in the Projects" are on there from
what I heard. I hope "Everyday Thing" is on there, and that song he
supposedely did with Madonna...but I really doubt that.

write some shit like nas' verse on kids in the
pjs. that's strictly some nas shit, the way he
can distill a life time into the few perfect
words to make you see his thought. diggin find ya
wealth, more poignant, vivid shit, young kid
fantasizing about wealth looking at rings on
canal st. , besides that straight outta qb is
hot, play that for nwa dudes who don't even know
qb, and they're jumpin out of their chair. jungle
holds his own and kinda sounds like eazy, huh?

is any one else feeling wiz as an mc? i think he
has a unique way with the polysyllabix, been
around forever too.

as far as d.o.e. i hope they include "true
dialect" another pre-illmatic one, my copy is
shit. i don't know all that he has in the vaults,
though. i would like to see the ORIGINAL project
window get a release, did any body notice how
they "updated" beat for nastradamus? the original
had more of a quiet swing to it, w/o that
annoying grand piano shit, it was a different
piano sound, drum pattern, and i think nas
rerecorded the vocal (same lyrics), they should
have left the fiduckin thing alone.

in any case, like most of y'all, i hope nas keeps
up the level of fire that he's displayed lately -
"b ez", that clue anti jigga freestyle, "the
only nigga sade dated/ the most hated/nas
nigga" ;let my niggaz live, qb album shit, etc

blood out, y'all

The only release it'll probably ever get is Napster.

Damn skippy, but that's life I guess. I felt the same when I bought
an import copy of GangStarr just to have "Doe in Advance" on CD and
found out they changed the beat from the horny horns.. I'm like what
the fuck was the point?

Peace, Flash

Word, that "Project Window" on the Nastradamus album was the third
version of it. It was originally called "The Game Lives On", and it was
just a piano loop, no singin', not even a snare. It was like Nas was
rappin' over a live piano. Then the second version added the bassline,
the chorus, and more piano. Then the third version used a different
piano (which I didnt like) and more drum kicks. Some songs I hope are
included on that D.O.E. album are:
"Drunk By Myself"
"Sometimes I Wonder" w/ Nature
"Everything is Real"
"Belly Button Window"
"Villian"

"Just Another Day in the Projects"
"Understanding"
"Everyday Thing" w/ Dr. Dre & Nature
"No. 1 With a Bullet" w/ Kool G. Rap & Whiteboy
"You Gotta Love It"
"Sex, Money, and Murder"
"I Love my Life"
"Life is like a Dice Game"

One.

That's not by any chance over a very fast beat, is it?

Nas wants to release "Death of Escobar" first with "Stillmatic" to follow.

word is bond. niggas won't give nas any credit, and dog has been
spittin flames for like the past year and change now. and not even
just on the thug tip, for cats who hate him based off that shit. i
wouldn't count on 'everyday thing' being on there, based off the fact
that it sounds a lot like 'sometimes i wonder' plus nate spit that
verse on the firm album. that's my joint though. 'stuck in my ways,
type chauvinistic/since a youth, had a thing for coupes, flooded rings
and older bitches'

looking at the shit that got jacklegged, 'i am' had five mic
potential. think about it...

Fetus (Belly Button Window)
Blaze a 50
Gotta Love It
We Will Survive
N.Y. State of Mind Part II
Ghetto Prisoners
Poppa Was a Player
Hate Me Now
Nas is Like
Sometimes I Wonder
Dr. Knockboot
Everyday Thing
Drunk by Myself
Wanna Play (Rough?)
Hardest Thing 2 Do is Stay Alive
Undying Love

that's a dope ass album. what could've been...

anybody know the name of this joint? it's nas, nate, and somebody
else. i had it on a sampler tape that i lost in l.a. about 3 years ago.
nas' verse starts

boss of the bosses/rhymes in my mind like pearls in oysters/jew-els,
you jel cause we bail in porsches/of course it's the firm/this court is
adjourned/my thoughts is confirmed, y'all little nas's/middle guys is
mouthin off/i need to speak to y'all leaders/after we smoke cheeba/i
shoot em in they 2-seaters

and nate's shit goes

1 for the money, 2 for the weed spots/undercover cops follow me though
they need not/it's like i'm rick james/stuck in the mix, rockin thick
chains/from hood 2 hood, ain't shit changed/supplyin whips/type of cat
that hold iron dipped/trickin the same dough y'all niggas try and flip

i been lookin for that joint since i lost it, but since i don't know
the name i can't find it anywhere.

couldn't agree more, people need to clean out their ears and stop
repeating what they reading without thinking. even that vibe review,
shit, i honestly cant tell if it's positive or negative "soulless
escobar rhymes" (?)
man if they hate it becaude it's gangsta, fucking black music and
american music in general has a long ass tradition of infatuation with
the "badman" and the devil.
check out the blues (+ olu dara, nas' pops)
check out fucking johnny cash
check out bob dylan's lyrics

nas, mobb deep, these guys are just furthering the tradition and the
artform
95% of most rap reviewers dont know shit about art
fuck you all ha ha
