John Blaze aka Johnny Blaze
an adjective used to describe something favourable or likeable.
i.e. "Daam, that new Clue tape is John Blaze!"

origin: originally Marvel comics used it as Ghostrider's alias. However,
when
the members of the Wu-Tang Clan were picking "Gambino names", The
Method Man chose this Marvel comics superhero to be his "handle" or
nickname. Soon after...people just started to use it as an adjective.

i.e. "this album is hot!"
"this album is blazin!"
"this album is John Blaze, kid!"

It was the name of the alter-ego of the Ghost Rider, a Marvel
Comics character. John Blaze was possessed by a demon named Zarathos who
embodied the spirit of vengeance. The comic ended sometime in the early
80s and was brought back to life sometime in the early 90s. I was never a
fan of the book myself, but the latest Ghost Rider did look cool as hell
(no pun intended).

Anyways, Meth decided to use it as his "Wu-Gambino" name, along
with Ghost Face using Tony Starks (Marvel's Iron Man has the alter-ego
of Tony Stark). Being a comic book head, I actually thought they were
cool names or aliases.

But soon the name "John Blaze" came to mean something tight or
hot. I've used the term "blazin'" to maen the same thing, but I can't
bring myself to refer to anything that good as "John Blaze". Meth is the
most disappointing member of the Wu-Tang Clan and I can't equate his
nickname with flat-out dopeness.

Peace,

As far as I know it was first used on The Mad Rapper skit on Biggie's
album. That was what made it a catch phrase. However, John Blaze is
the alias of the Ghost Rider comic book character and is one of Method
Man's alias' also. I think the idea was that the mad rapper was sayin
he was John Blaze like Meth and it just got turned into meaning dope, real
etc. etc.

Just to clear this up, the Mad Rapper was the *FIRST* to use the term "john
blaze" on Biggie's [Life After Death] CD right before the song "Kick in the
Door".

I agree, but did you hear the one on Mase's album? Terribly overdone.
