2 questions,

1, Who's Xzibit coming at in his second verse?

Why do you hate me? I came from nothin
Blood sweat and tears, you did not create me
Etc.

2, Is Eminem dissing Nas on the last part of the track, or just using
that Ether shit as a dis at Canibus?

(I) No gangsta you ain't either
(Will) But I know that I spit "Ether"
(Not) I shoulda crossed your belly
(Lose) Show you I'm not R. Kelly

The "no gangsta you aint either" makes me think it's a Nas thing...

I wondered that. Why would Em go at Nas though? Surely Nas complimented him
on Ether when he said that he murdered Jay-Z on Jay-Z's own track.

Haven't heard the track, but the (I, Will, Not, Lose) would also support that
it's a Nas diss. Perhaps the 'belly' line is also in reference to Nas' movie?

I don't think that it was a diss. On a couple of Em's lyrics he says stuff
about Nas and X

Dr. Dre, wants to square dance with me
Nasty Nas, wants to square dance with me
X to the Z, wants to square dance with me
Busta Rhymes, wants to square dance with me
+Cani-bitch+, won't square dance with me
+Cani-bitch+, won't square dance with me
+Canada-bis+, don't want no parts of me
Dirty Dozen, wants to square dance with you
Weeeeeeeeeeee-hahh!! Woo!

and then he says this as well

I got a list here's the order of my list that it's in
It goes Reggie, Jay-Z, Tupac and Biggie
Andre from OutKast, Jada, Kurupt, Nas and then me
But in this industry I'm the cause of a LOT of envy
So when I'm not put on this list, the shit does NOT offend me

So I don't think that it was a diss at all.

not sure about this one but why is xzibit telling jokes with that "there'd
be no west coast without me" line?

it's called homage, and if you were to quote the whole verse it'd be obvious
he's talking about jd.

anyway, man vs. machine is still crap.

my guess is it's Tash for hating on X once he blew up and overshadowed
the Liks. Tash has been envious for a while now. And the track was
recorded way before Snoop made his dis cut. The only other one I think
he might be aiming that line to is Suge.

> not sure about this one but why is xzibit telling jokes with that "there'd

Thas is a pretty bold line but really who helped resurrect the west
post-Biggie/DMX/Ja-Rule/Jay-z?

It wasn't Dre's first Aftermath release. It wasn't Snoop's post-Dre
Death Row shit. There wasn't any mainsteream mc on the west really
shining on a national level. But...

what cut came out before the Chronic 2001 album that boosted Snoop's
career?

"Bitch Please"

... everybody had wrote snoop off before that cut. Nobody was checkinn'
for Snoop with that wack whisper flow he adopted and the non-Dre beats
he had.

X had the personality, charisma, flows, and voice that made cats
everywhere start keepin' an ear open for the west again. So I can
understand why X would spit that line...he played a huge part in turning
the tide from East Coast dominance and back to a little more balanced
listening spectrum.

That's why I don't understand why Snoop would be dissin' X. He owes a
lot to X for "Bitch Please." Snoop really think's he had the skills to
be the boss now I guess...yeah....just check how much his comp is
selling compared to his Dre affiliated releases.

This is true, but I think it was Nate Dogg that helped the song blow up...

The Dre beats are just as bad...he should have gone back to the DJ Pooh and
Daz beats.

The comp has a bunch of artists most people haven't heard of, terrible
Hi-Tek beats, and it's from the West Coast. Not the best recipe for
success...

ok, i guess it makes sense now that you've put it into perspective...

but i think i can explain this. well i can't find the link, but snoop was
just recently quoted, and i'm paraphrasing, that the only rapper who can
fuck with him, is ice cube! so apparently snoop is living in his past glory
(not that him ever being on cube's level is even conceivable) and way out of
touch.

You're kidding right? That single is dope because of the beat, not because of
anything groundbreaking that Xzibit spits. Obviously his presence on the song
helps because he's a dope emcee, but giving him the credit for the track's
success is wack.

Em's verse is talking about Jermaine Dupree. Look at the entire verse,
not just that part of it. Besides, do you think Nas would allow one of
his tracks to be on the "8 Mile" soundtrack if Eminem had a song out
dissing him? "My Name" has been out for a month, plenty of time to
have had his track pulled from the soundtrack if that was the case.

I never said X spit groundbreaking lyrics on the track. His one verse
was better that Snoop's two verses on the track though. Yes, the beat
was ridiculous...but imagine the track with just Snoop spittin' over it
and Nate studio harmonizing on it. It woulda been a whole lot more dull
without X on it.

X's verse:
"You ain't tryin to hot box with me, I swing hard liquor
Goin down by the second round, all hail the underground
How dat sound? Xzibit backin down from a conflict
Fuck the nonsense, terrorist, hidden bomb shit
Glass and metal in every direction
Innocent bystanders taught a very hard lesson
I'm the reason there's no time to reach for that weapon
and reason why niggaz with problems keep on steppin
Xzibit ready to scrap, like Mike Tyson with his license back
Nine to five, minimum wage, what type of life is that
for me? It's blasphemy, you fuckin around
with the Sundance Kid and Butch Cassidy
You had the audacity to wanna tangle with the X
Strangle your neck, slap you like the opposite sex
Drunk drivin tryin to stack my loot
While other rappers gettin "Treated Like a Prostitute"
So check the SoundScan"

you can check Snoop's verses on:
http://ohhla.com/anonymous/snoopdog/top_dogg/please.snp.txt

It's obvious who I think carried the track.

All I can say is cats (so called crew) were jealous/hating on X since a
long time ago...since 40 Dayz and 40 Nights. 40 fans to one me don't
know what I do.

Tash tried to blow up commercially with his solo album and they even
tried again on the last Liks lp. Shit didn't work. Imagine your protege
pushing more units and blowing up more than you...shit has to hurt. And
Tash is an asshole in real life so I bet he couldn't handle seeing a
homie he brought into the game advancing to the next level before Tash
did.

All I'm saying is X worked a whole lot harded to get where he's at.
Others were comfortable with their status, but got pissed once they saw
their homie get mainstream success.

I'll give you that. Nate deserves some of the credit for the success of
"Bitch Please."

So what...that means Snoop deserves just 1/3 of the props for the cut?
1/4 if wanna give credit to Dre for the beat?

> Balanced my ass.

I'm saying west coast acts (primarily Dre and affiliates) got more
mainstream attention again. Remember for a minute the east coast was
running things again, but "Bitch Please" helped break the west back into
the mainstream.

> The comp has a bunch of artists most people haven't heard of, terrible

plus it's on MCA which is known for not knowing how to properly
publicize and promote their hip-hop artists. And that's a decision Snoop
made to have his label distro'ed by MCA/Universal.

I thought he was just using the Ether line... I haven't heard anything about an
Em/Nas feud... Actually, I thought both seemed to respect each other...

Examples...

In "Ether" -- "Eminem murdered you (Jay-Z) on your own shit..."

In "The Eminem Show", Eminem puts Nas in his favorite emcee list...

And I read somewhere that Nas will be on the 8 Mile soundtrack...

BUT... Murda Inc hates Aftermath cause they signed 50 Cent (which goes back to
Ja's beef with him) so Nas and Em could feud in the future possibly...

Are you kidding? X absolutely dismantles the track on his verse. It
has barely anything to do with what he says or his flow, like you
said, nothing ground breaking. But his delivery is just SO hard.
Perfect verse for the song, if that makes sense.

Tell me this: Why does the sampler smoke the album? They dropped the best
cuts off the album! Looks like they put it through the filter.
