What equivalent for Trader's Little Helper do people actually use and are
happy with and are free/cheap? Yes, I can google, and have, but I want to
know what people here actually use. Thanks!

You're clearly making better use of your time than I am. But - do I have this right? - if one wants to be efficient, one just torrents the flacs and is done with it. No converting to wav for burning, no converting to mp3, no editing shows down to fit into 80 minute chunks . . . flacs accept tagging and show up nicely in various players, i.e., foobar2000.

So, is there free/cheap software for the Mac that will let you simply play the flacs?

I use Max (http://sbooth.org/Max/). I mainly use it to convert FLAC's
into Apple Lossless to put into my iTunes library. I can't play FLAC's
on my iPod, so this works well. It will transfer the tags during
conversion, or you can tag the files yourself and add artwork. It will
convert files to wav., aiff., even mp3, and other forms. I've been
using it for years and it works great for me.

I am not a prolific collector, user, manipulator or editor of digital audio by any stretch of the imagination so take this for what it is worth. I have used Audacity to edit MP3s to do things like make ring tones or shorten MP3s to get rid of audience noise. It is free, simple to use and available for Mac.

I use a free program called xAct for Mac. Been using it since I
switched to Mac about two years ago.
