The Loner
Southern Man(!!!!!!)
Helpless
Like A Hurricane
Motorcycle Mama
Separate Ways (a new, or at least un-recorded song)
Love to Burn
Only Love Can Break Your Heart
Harvest Moon
Unknown Legend
The Needle and the Damage Done

Down By the River
Encore:
Dock of the Bay
All ALong the Watchtower
Backing band was Booket T and the MG's and two female vocalists, including
Astrid Young, Neil's half-sister (who by the way is a real knockout!!)
Opening acts were Blind Melon (who I completely missed) and the Conells (SP?),
a local band who I caught the last 2 songs and was not impressed--their
sound was kind of distorted and where I was it was too loud).
This was the best Neil Young concert I've been to (I've seen about 15)
Highlights for me were finally getting to hear "Southern Man" live--though for
some reason Neil inverted the order of the lyrics. "Like A Hurricane" was
almost too good to be described--the solos were astounding. Likewise for
"Down By the River" and "All ALong the Watchtower"--my brain definitely
got melted. Best concert I've seen since the last Dead show at Boston Garden
in 1991 (ODC).
Now the true reason for this post--did anybody tape this show? I'd do (almost)
anything to get a copy of this-if anyone taped or knows someone who did
I'd be forever grateful if you'd get in touch--I have lots of Neil and Dead
(amongst other stuff ) to trade.
Pretty please???

Tall white mansions and little shacks..."
Same set at Lakewood amp theater in Atlanta last night except no Down By the River.
Allgood Music Co. and Blind Melon opened. Great show, Neil has still got his
voice and added intensity/heart. The new stuff on Havest Moon sounded crisp, and the
unreleased songs, especially Seperate Ways was superb!! %*). A great show and a loud
one, my ears rang for hours and I was on the lawn. Ill take a tape too, if anyone
had an opportunity to make any.
Disappointed not to hear "This Notes for You". Heard he was playing it earlier
this tour. Guess it didn't pan out well with BT&MG's style like they thought
it would. Overall a great show, check it out.

As you can tell, the set was nearly identical to Randy Schechter's
review in a previous posting from Raleigh. I guess Neil plays a list.
This may be due to a relatively new backup band of Booker T. and the MGs
and their "coming up to speed" with a large list of Neil's tunes.
It's something that doesn't happen overnight.
Blind Melon opened for Neil. 'Sorry, I just ain't in to them.
Loud, non-melodic head banger stuff.
This is my first Colorado Neil Young concert, after being a transplant from
the Sierra Foothills near Sacramento, CA. My previous Neil Y. shows were
at the Cow Palace with Crazy Horse. The show was very good, in my opinion
but different than his style w/Crazy Horse. A bit slower on the rock and
roll tunes and I thought that his backup band, Booker T. and the MG's
wasn't as much a part of his songs as C.H. was but maybe I'm just nostalgic.
Singing with Neil were female vocalists Astrid Young and someone named
Annie Stocking (sounded like that but not sure of spelling). During the
obligatory Harvest Moon, the "harvest plus one day" moon rose at the back
of the theater, perfectly centered, from the clouds. 'Quite spectacular.
My favorites were Rocking in the Free World (good, powerful music)
and believe it or not, Dock of the Bay. This was the first time I've
heard Neil play this song and his precision with the music caught me
by surprise. Simply getting up to a floor mike with a hand held harmonica
(no guitar) and singing so clean.... it was beautiful. I've never heard
him sing that way.
'Crowd was great (mostly quite mellow) and venue provided pretty good
sound and visibility from nearly all places. 'Strange place though. No
parking, per se, for the venue and was dependent upon local office complex
parking lots for parking. No trash receptacles in any of them so there
were mostly neat, numerous piles of cans/bottles at the lots. I could see
where the tennants would complain about it and hopefully, they'll do something
about the situation in the future. Security was non-intrusive.

Ah, Booker T. and the MG's are the absolute best backup band in the
world. Everbody repeat after me: Stax/Volt Stax/Volt Stax/Volt.

Dock of the Bay came to you courtesy of the backup band. Somebody tell
me if I'm wrong, but I believe Steve Cropper (the guitarist) co-wrote
this. The original, of course, featured the incomparable Otis Redding.
