Wow, that's big. I think it's the right move for them, I imagine it
was getting old. Besides, now they can do a reunion tour.

Good riddance to bad rubbish!!! This effin' group began the downfall
of the rock 'n' roll generation. Just like the Bauhaus
architechs.......I thought this bad excuse for a "musical" group died
off years ago.....

Where's Quiet Riot when you need them?!?!?

It's the end of the world as we know it....gotta disgree Geez, I
didn't own any of their albums but they were a top live band in
concert.

Pull your head out of your ass, Geezuh. REM had some great songs.

I like REM, but I found them a bit disappointing live. They basically
just played their songs note per note like the album. I guess I'm
spoiled.

They didn't have a very wide range. A lot of their songs sound the
same. Lots of songs in minor keys.

REM were my fave band during the heyday...
"Murmur" thru "Green"....then MTV co-opted the band
and it was all downhill...."Automatic for the People"
being the 1st nail in the coffin.....I only saw them once on
the "Lifes Rich Pageant" tour, and they were really good
live....nothing earth shattering, but they didnt have many
dud tunes at that point....they shoulda closed it down 10 years ago.
I always respected the drummer for bailing when he did....
said they stopped rocking, he had enough bread, and let it go
to farm blueberrys or something.

They've been up and down, but I generally found at least some of the
tunes, on even their recent albums, worthwhile. Around the Sun was
the best of the post-Berry albums; I can't believe that was 7 years
ago.

I always liked them live, even recently.

I won't miss them

I always thought Losing my Religion' was ripe for a Weird Al parody.

Meh, all they have to do is wait for the main guy to die then go back
on tour with a similar name. REN or something.

In article <j5dqc8$sfp$1...@dont-email.me>,
Yes and no. He had a brain aneurysm, but he came back for a while after that.
But he said that did cause him to sit back and reconsider what he wanted
out of life, so he quit. They were still rocking quite well at that
time. It was the album after he left - "Up" - when they started falling
into "Easy Listening" territory.

I saw them a bunch of times from '82-90. They were a great band at
that time. I loved the southern gothic vibe. Very unique.

REM was pretty good. They've made an impact. And staying together 31
years with a loyal fan base is an amazing feat.

Do I have any of their records? No. But I've heard their stuff over the
years, and it ain't bad at all. It's a helluva lot better than ANY rap
'band'.

P-Dub: Maybe each member can claim a letter. We'll see tours by 'R',
another tour by 'E', and another by 'M'.

They just don't make them like the new/old Beach Boys anymore...
