Peace,
Neil X.
I've never really used Deadlists for anything other than a quick
setlist lookup, but have you tried Deadbase (www.deadbase.com)?
There's a search function there (just click on the "search" link in
the upper left corner).
I just use deadlists for single / multiple show lookups - I like how
you can look at a whole year, then click 7 or 8 shows in a run, then
generate the setlists for those selected shows, search through them,
then go right to the archive from a show (you've got to remember to
click the "see other copies" link in the archive, because they don't
keep deadlists up to date with each and every new recording that pops
up on the archive). I haven't noticed the issues that Neil has
mentioned, but I'm sure he's exploiting much more of the site's
capabilities than I am.
One of the nice things about the deadlists search engine is you can
look up, say, "Viola Lee Blues" and get a list of every time it was
played. Or you can look up "Merriweather Post Pavilion" and get a
list of every show played there. If you're trying to remember when
that show in New York was that had a killer Crazy Fingers, you can get
a list of every Crazy Fingers played in the state of New York.
At least, you used to be able to do that, until it broke.

Neil X.

It appears as if the Deadbase search engine would allow those types of
searches as well. I say "it appears" because when I submitted a query
for Crazy Fingers played in New York state I got a SQL error saying I
couldn't access the database.
I smell a conspiracy.
I used to love typing in "bathroom" and seeing how many Sambas and
Roosters came up.
Mark
So, are you a samba or a rooster?
Ah, that's nice. It's not as good as the deadlists search engine was,
but it does 80% of what deadlists used to do (and is infinitely better
than the current state of deadlists.)
Peace,
Neil X.
Depends on whether I wanted to go off half cocked or not.
Mark
This"whois" is great. Now I can find out the owners/IT people who run
many websites I visit.
I used it frequently for "song hunting" for various versions and
venues. Then in seconds I was in the archive listening to it. It was
nice.
It's been out of commission for several months I believe.

It turns out that a fellow JTFCer is an admin at the site, and he's
contacted the webmaster who has already fixed the glitch. It's
working perfectly now.
Peace,
Neil X.

Is this due to your posting?
If so - THANKS! It's something I use frequently.

Jesus Titty Fuckin' Christ?
Gotta love Google!
Applying Google more narrowly, I get . . . Jeff Tiedrich Fan Club.
It's due to the same query being sent to JTFC. Lots of former RMGDers
have been involved with deadlists.com--Teddy Goodbear, Jim Powell,
Gordon Sharpless, Jeff Tiedrich. None of these guys read RMGD
anymore, but apparently some JTFC regulars are still involved with
running deadlists.
Peace,
Neil X.
Though I haven't used Deadlists in years, I used to like it because
they had a quote from a rmgd post of mine about seeing the Dead on
Haight on March 3, 1968.

Jeff Tiedrich was the biggest member of that fan club, IIRC.

Well, he should get his nose out of his own ass, cause he's a jerk.

Now, now, Jeff's not that bad a guy. I've met him in
person and know him. There's lots worse out there.

Uh, maybe you should google one of his old posts here. That might help
eplain where I was coming from.
Fred
Jeff never wanted anything to do with JTFC, he thought it was
ridiculous. AFAIK, he isn['t involved with anything Dead-related now,
though he did pop in to RMGD for a couple of posts under a pseudonym a
year ago.
He is heavily involved in progressive politics. He currently runs a
very good website:

Up until a year or two ago he'd occasionally post about gigs for his
band (the Alligators, IIRC) on the nycheads mailing list. The band
was definitely Dead-related, or at least played some Dead songs.

He's been running that for some time now, always worth a quick visit.
