I should confess right here & now that I haven't been a big
Grateful Dead fan, but a friend sent me a copy of "Deadicated," and
I really enjoy it. It made me realize that the Dead songwriters
have come up with some good stuff over the years, and I look forward
to checking out the original versions of these songs.

One thing puzzles me, though--who the hell are the "Harshed
Mellows," who perform "U.S. Blues?" I could call my friend in Florida
and ask her to read the CD liner notes to me, but instead I'm hoping
that one of you folks could post this info, or email it to me. I have
a hunch that these guys are musicians I've heard of before, & that the
"Harshed Mellows" name was chosen at the spur of the moment.

Thanks in advance. Oh, feel free to flame me, if you must! :)

1) I'm glad you like the CD.

2) I don't know who the "Harshed Mellows" are, but

3) I do know that you and your friend in Florida have broken the law (not
that I hold any high respect for all laws, but copyright laws have good
reasons behind them and I respect them).

I recommend that you:

1) Erase your tape copy of Deadicated.

2) Go buy a copy.

If you really like the CD, then the people who made it deserve fair
compensation. Owning and listening to a copy of a copyrighted album
when legal copies are available is ethically and morally wrong -- it
is the equivalent of gate-crashing a concert without a ticket and then
feeling like you deserve to be there.

"The Harshed Mellows" are a one-shot group (thank God!) of members from
the Georgia Satellites and the Heartbreakers, along with Michelle
Malone. Unless you like imitation, rehashed, poor-man's Aerosmith,
this is the only spot of pure garbage on DEADICATED, IMHO.....

Hmmm...not a bad thought...;-)

One IMPORTANT note: The Merl Saunders show at the Red Creek is on
** SATURDAY, MAY 11TH!!!!!!!!!! **. I had posted the show
as the 12th, as the FreeTime (local) magazine had listed
the incorrect date. Based on the response I've received
the last two days over email, we'll definitely be having
a net.gathering somewhere. :-)

The Harshed Mellows:
Dan Baird and Michelle Malone: Throats
Stan Lynch and Mauro Magellan: Gang Drums
Dan Baird and Mike Campbell: Guitar Guys
Benmont Tench: Planner and Hammond B-3 Organ
Brendan (Lucky Bud) O'Brien: Bass
Primitive Ritual Percussives (Tamburine): Stan Lynch

This is straight from the liner notes. It doesn't give any more info
on who they are, and I've never heard of them before.
