What year was
the most ~ psychedelic ~ for
the Grateful Dead?

I love the psychedelic years of The Grateful Dead. Problem is that I
don't know what they are. 1974, 1975, 1976 or 1977? Those have got to be
in the range?

I am wondering if there was one year in particular that was the most ~
psychedelic ~ for the Grateful Dead?

I might have to go with 1975. There were not that many show that year.
But the ones that were, were psychedelic for sure.
What is really is psychedelic? I would have to say free flowing playing
music with seemingly never ending jams that go on forever. Isn't that
like that for all their shows?

No, I mean more jam oriented shows verses shows with songs with more
structure. (I don't know what I am saying) For instance, I am now
listening to 3/23/75 2nd set and it is a mind blower. Merl Saunders was
a guest at this show.

They opened up the set with *King Solomon's Marbles* and it is a gas. It
is pure free flowing jamming at it's best.
I don't think I ever heard this song live. Either in person or on tape.
But it sounds kinda spacey and good.
This particular version is excellent.
Then it goes right into drums then out of it back into the marbles.

Just by knowing what years were the most psychedelic by The Grateful
Dead,
I could zero in on those shows.

I would just be curious as to what people (heads) think the most
psychedelic year was for The Grateful Dead.

Woooo doggie I love those psychedelic years. If I could only remember
them ; )

65-72...ditto, I think the coolest story was from Scully talking about living
in LA (66?) with the bear's tabber going upstairs and leaving a fine purple
dust over everything. Would like to think it was true.

Who cares if half of Rock Scully's book was true? It was funny as hell. It
was just exactly perfect. It was...The Grateful Dead Comedy Hour.

Anyone remember the part about how some day in the future, a wall will be
built around San Francisco to keep "the normal people" out? Or the part
about how only Jerry clones will be hanging out on Haight Street some day?

LOL. Fucking hilarious!

Joe

1970.
The best of both worlds..the all night swirling electric vortex of Avalon and
the daybreak coffee of Workingman's Beauty.
Electric and acoustic.

1968 and 1972. 1968 is when the songs and lifestyle were the most
about the hallucinogens. The jamming had a garage-rock intensity that
year which didn't last into 1969. 1972 is the year of the most
vicious meltdowns. (where's my Rockin the Rhein, anyway?)

There were intensely mind-expanding shows every year, but after 1977,
the deep space got corralled into the post-drumz segment. Kind of
like it was the 'psychedelic' act on Sonny and Cher (after the
comedian, but after the top forty group) .

Art that is both inspired by altered perceptions from the use of
psychedelic drugs, and intended to interact directly with the altered
mindstate of a user of psychedelic drugs. You could say "Something
that's cooler when you're on acid", but that's true of everything.

This is a great show. Everyone should have it.

Keep laughing, Joe.

My god daughter is almost old enough to carry that cloned embryo, and
as soon as her mom can get those strands of Jerry's hair cloned (given
to her by one of his morticians) the implantation will be taking
place.

The holy child lives just north of Santa Rosa, so when this happens
I'll be sure to invite all the Bay Area rmgd'ers to the big event.

Anyone have a turkey baster?

This is one of those, 'the answer is empirical' opinions...

1969's got everything else beat by a mile. Has made me go
"Whoaaaaahhhh...." more consistently than any other year. Listen to
2/27, or 4/27, or x/x/69, etc., etc. There's a vicious, raw,
unbridaled, unstructured energy there that is certainly not present,
on a regular basis anyway, in any year thereafter. When it's
necessary for me to just fuckin' LOSE IT -- I go 1969.
