I can't remember what magazine interview this was in, Rolling Stone in
the mid-80's before Touch(?). At his self-deprecating best.
(Paraphrased) "We're best at taking a nice little tune and running it
right into the ground.", answering a question about their long,
improvisational jams.

> > "My way is music. Music is me being me and trying to get higher. I've been into music so long that I'm dripping with it; it's all I ever expect to do. I can't do anything else. Music is a yoga, something you really do when you're doing it. Thinking about what it means comes after the fact and isn't very interesting. Truth is something you stumble into when you think you're going someplace else, like those moments when you're playing and the whole room becomes one being - precious moments, man. But you can't look for them, and they can't be repeated. Being alive means to continue to change, never to be where I was before. Music is the timeless experience of constant change." < <

I forget the specifics, but I believe it was from a later day
interview. Question: "What is so special about a Grateful Dead show?"
Answer: "I don't know. I have never been to one."

That is correct. I was there too, of course. Phil said "Why don't
you ask for Mickey to sing, or Brent? Say: We Want Brent!" Then
Bobby interjected, "Don't ask Phil for anything, he's been deaf for
years." Jerry's quote above was a response to that line.

Peace,
Neil X.

The one where he was asked why rock and roll has to be so loud, and in reply
he said something like, "Ever see a dog with its head out the window of a
car going 60 mph? Same thing."

I think that was something Mick said about the Stones.

Yeah, but he didn't say that like it was a bad thing.

Mick may have said it, but Jerry definitely said it.
