Uh yeah....nice of you to take the time out

a busy time in Iowa....what with the leap into

to get up an hour earlier to bale the hay...or whatEVER

Yeha, me and the missus have been known to attend a Sheryl show or
two. First 3 albums were a lot of fun. Nothing groundbreaking, but
simply good rock and roll. That video of "All I Want to Do," Sheryl's

I do. I saw her when she played Hunter Park - a teeny tiny venue in
Manchester, Vermont. I think it holds 800 or so max - in summer they
have concerts there, in winter it's the skating rink. It was a great
show, and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. :)

My brother used to rant against Crow back when her first album came
out. He claimed she had plagurized (sp?) or taken writing credits for
some tunes on the first album from somebody in her back-up band, or an
ex-lover or something. My brother often ranted about stuff I didn't
care much for, like Sheryl Crow pop music.
Anyone know anything about this?

Not just here first album. I know quite a bit, since one of my buddies
(there I go again!) co-wrote a number of her tunes. But one merely read
the songwriting credits to see that there are are a lot of writers
involved...some of the most talented in the business I might add.
Unfortunately some folks got screwed during her first two-album heyday.

Sheryl is an amazing business woman, but her artistic creativity is
overplayed in the media IMO. But she knows how to play the game and
play it well. No doubt about it. But I have to say, based on what I
know, she hasn't treated her peers and those who helped her make it to
the top very well. So my respect for her is pretty low.

so where she mentions that she had written songs for more famous
female performers. She wouldn't name names, of course. The music
business is as cut throat/competitive as just about anything else out

actual song writing & singing talent, personal charisma and lo and

When you say Yusuf, do you mean Cat Stevens? I'm a product of the

She was about to be dropped because she couldn't come up with a
good first album. Her boyfriend and his friends had a songwriting
club that wrote (and played) the songs on her first album, hence
the title (Tuesday Night Songwriting Club or something like that).
As soon as it was a success, the record company dumped all
the guys who had written and played on the songs. The boyfriend
died soon after while hanging himself while mastubating.

After it was a hit, Sheryl Crow was asked by a dj in Vegas
I think if she had written "Leaving Las Vegas" as an
autobiographical song. She said yes, implying that she
had written it when she hadn't.

I thought that was a shitty thing to do, but I got over it
after a while.

Her first album (Tuesday Night Music Club) was written by Sheryl Crow with
the Tuesday Music Collective, a bunch of musicians/songwriters from L.A.

Well, the role of TMC was important, but, honestly, there was also a bit
of marketing behind the facade.

Was it a real group effort? Not entirely.

In fact, only "Leaving Las Vegas" and "Strong Enough" represent the
true collaborative nature of the early Tuesday Music Collective sessions.

For instance, "Run Baby Run" wasn't TMC. That song came out from a
session with Sheryl Crow, David Baerwald and Bill Bottrell (the producer).
Again, "What I Can Do For You" was a song pre-TMC sessions, composed
separately by Sheryl and David Baerwald in Venice Beach, and completed at
Toad Hall Studio (Pasadena) along with Mr. Bottrell. "I Shall Believe" and
"Can't Cry Anymore" were originated by Sheryl and then completed by her and
Bill. And so on...

Bill Bottrell remarks : "on a lot of songs, Sheryl and I played all of the
instruments, and that goes against the myth". "I mean, the album did grow
out of the musicians meeting once a week, but man, there were just months
and months of sweat put me, trying to choose the songs, put them in an
order, and mix them" ("No fool to this game" - R. Buskin - p. 95)

So it's very difficult to establish the exact % of lyrics written by Sheryl
Crow on this record.

Generally, she tend to write more introspective and less radio-friendly
tunes when she is alone. Her co-written works are definitely more
commercial.

**************************************************

On Sheryl Crow (her second record - 1996) a bunch of songs were penned
entirely by Crow ("Home", "Redemption Day", "Love is a Good Thing",
"Ordinary Morning"), a couple by her and Bill Bottrell ("Maybe Angels",
"Hard to Make a Stand") and some others in conjunction with Jeff Trott
("Sweet Rosalyn", "Oh Marie" "If It Makes You Happy", "A Change", "Everyday
is a Winding Road", "The Book").

Instrumental credits (Sheryl Crow): acoustic guitar, bass, piano, electric
guitar, harmonium, keyboards, Hammond organ, Wurlitzer, Moog bass

**************************************************
The Globe Session (1998) is probably her most intimate album. She is the
only author of seven tracks out twelve (Riverwide, Am I Getting Through,
Anything But Down, The Difficult Kind, Crash and Burn, Subway Ride and
Members Only). Four songs were co-wrote by her and Jeff Trott (My Favorite
Mistake, There Goes the Neighborhood, Maybe That's Something, It Don't
Hurt), while "Mississippi" was a gift from Bob Dylan ;)

12 string guitar, National steel guitar, Wurlitzer, electric 12 string

During that era (1998/99), she also penned other new songs ("Carolina"
(Crow), "In Need" (Crow), "You always get your way" (Crow), "Resuscitation"
(Crow)) and part of the soundtrack of "Dill Scallion", a little known indie
movie directed in 1998 by Jordan Brady.

It's her PR agent again!

LOL

So who really wrote the lyrics and music to "Everyday is a Winding
Road"? Has she been involved in any lawsuits pertaining to songwriting
credits and/or royalty issues in the past? Has she lost any of those
lawsuits? Lastly, why did you not mention some of the other songwriters
involved on the second album? There were some curious omissions. Were
you at any of those sessions? Just curious. Fanboy or PR agent?

Many of the same crew were actually involved on the second album as
well. Of course, Sheryl masterminded production credit and tried to
cheat some of the songwriters out of their royalties as well. Again,
her talent IMO is vastly overrated. Not that she doesn't have talent at
all, but there's talent all around this globe after all that surpasses
her own. Frankly, she's an industry product at this point in her
career. But she's got the power to bring in a producer or songwriter,
ask for their ideas and then get rid of them before a project even
starts. Smart. She learns from the best talent in the industry, some
might say she steals ideas. Even so, her work of later is entirely
pedestrian.

Her PR agent gets the last word.

Not exactly. It was her first national tv appearances at the Late Show.

Having performed the number, she sat down with the host for the obligatory 2
minute interview that closes out the show: "hey, great song! What's it
about?" That kind of thing. In this case, Letterman asked if "leaving las
vegas" was autobiograraphical. "Yes," came the answer, befire Sheryl then
compounded the white lie by saying: "I've never been to Las Vegas. I wrote
it about Los Angeles. It's really metaphorical"

Anyway, FYI "Everyday is a Winding Road" and "A Change Would Do You Good"
were both conceived by Sheryl Crow, Jeff Trott and Brian MacLeod at the
MacLeod's cabin located in the Gold Country region (Northern California). I
think it was the spring/summer of 1995 or so.

If you don't believe me, just ask to Brian MacLeod. You can reach him at:

Ok, so tell me - without polemical intentions - where is the proof that
Sheryl Crow was legally sued for credits/royalties issues? I mean, show me
some proof (valid sources, not allegations or "national enquirer stuff"),
some evidence, document, record.

Now that would be mighty on my part, wouldn't it? Not everything is as
it seems. Your confidence in what you know will remain. But the point
I made remains. Sheryl's songwriting talent is vastly overrated. She's
a snake in the grass as well. That'll stand as my opinion. No need to
convince someone who spends so much of their time researching market
driven blabber regarding an artist that they obviously are sickly
passionate about.

You just can't help yourself, can you? This is why you've lost any
respect you've already had. Get over yourself.

>knows his organic wine

If you see "organic wine" on a wine bottle you can be assured it's a
poor quality product. Organic wine can not have sulfites added,
resulting in a wine that spoils easily. Now if it's made with organic
grapes, the wine may indeed be fine. In the wine industry however,
biodynamic is becoming more accepted over organic farming and is the
next step up, both from a marketing standpoint and a quality standpoint,
since most of the wineries going into biodynamic farming have skipped
organic farming all together, specifically because the sulfite issue
dirties the names to knowledgeable wine fanatics, the ones willing to
pay a high price that is.

Why are you so consistently hung up on class? The friends I keep in the
music industry are of the blue collar variety. Working class musicians
and 9 to 5ers. Some are rich. Some are poor. Some deal with extreme
depression. You really have a distorted view of how other people live
outside of the bible belt.

McDonalds goes beyond transfats. Parents who have their kids eat there
are irresponsible in my view. Doesn't mean I harp on it everyday or
refuse to be friends with those that do. But I'm gonna speak my mind
about it whether you like it or not.

Not to worry, mang..I take my wine good and pure, perferably with a
hint of berry, chocolate, insecticide. Francis Coppola puts out a good
Syrah. YMMV. (of course)

I don't need to prove anything. Those who trust that I come forth with
believable information will know I'm not bullshitting or at least see my
information as one particular POV based on my own experience. Those who
distrust me will obviously disagree. Proving what I know would bring

I've been in the same room with at least 3 guys that I argued with, a lot,
before I ever met them: Scot, JC and Frnddvl.

Geraldine turned out to be the great equalizer.

And we all lived happily ever after.

Except for every once in a while, when I have to bitch slap Jeff because
of his rah-rah-guns-are-cool rap. But, you get the idea...

Geraldine = Love and Peace and Ass-Whoopings = One Big Happy RMGD Family

Of course you don't! Just throw accusations out there and let's just
trust you that Sheryl Crow is a vicious little two-timing song-
stealing lawsuit-losing snake in the grass who is beneath contempt.
Correct me if I'm wrong so we can restore Sheryl's reputation. I

Joe was talking about transfats on that particular thread. I was
talking about McDonalds. Provide a quote of me taking someone to task
for eating transfats.

Secondly, you've insinuated that I've called someone a "cunt". Quote me
on that now or I expect an apology.

You really are a lost soul Carrie. I used to feel sorry for you. But
you can't come clean on anything, so it becomes quite a task. What are
you so afraid of that you need to construct such a thick wall around
you? You make up things to seemingly make yourself feel more right...to
the point that you'll even accuse me of calling someone a cunt. Pretty
pathetic and pretty desperate too.

Interesting. The one instance of me calling anyone cunt was my mocking
of leftie for calling you a cunt. You are a joke Carrie. Here I am
defending you, and you're going to call me to task for that? You're the
most dishonest person on this newsgroup without a doubt. Your words

I believe you need to read the Google link I posted. And McDonalds=trans
fats or used to.
Did I say you took anyone to task for eating trans fats per se or that you
just eschew processed foods personally and are proud of it? You sure do have
a thing about McDonalds (and Oprah Winfrey) to the point of hilarity, but if
you read my original post to you, it was not out of line. You're just a tad
prickly.

I never said you called anyone a cunt. (I originally tried to have a laugh
at the things I've been called here.) In fact, you've come out to say you
are above such words because you are an "old soul" although you can be just
as hostile even without such name-calling. Btw, you're deflecting. It

Yeah, he hasn't been around here, but he got on my case bigtime over
