Had someone ask me a question I can't answer.
What exactly was wrong with the Brown Acid at
Woodstock?
Everybody has probably heard the announcement, but
why was it made? And what about the people who
had already taken it?

Poorly manufactured. Caused "bad trips"

\Everybody has probably heard the announcement, but
\why was it made?

So that people who hadn't dropped it yet, wouldn't.

\And what about the people who had already taken it?

As a Woodstock attendee who'd already ingested a few hits of the brown
acid by the time the announcements started, I had no idea at the time what
was wrong with it, and to this day, still have no idea.

Then again, I never took acid again after that weekend. It was like, "why
bother. I could never top that experience, plus I learned what I was
meant to learn, and there's no turning back now."

hey joe, a neighbor of mine, a 60 year old chiropractor, was at woodstock.
he told me he thought he took "brown acid" in the form of a barrel, but it
may have been just dirt from being handled too much.. I thought the bad
brown was blotter? anyway, he said it was fine...very colorful, no fear,
expanded his mind, etc. next to owsleys orange sunshine, he said it was the
best he had ever taken.

So you learned what you were meant to learn from the BROWN ACID?
I think you might be on the wrong track then, that stuff was fucked!

What does Poorly Manufactured mean? The wrong
ingredients? Poison slipped in? Was it deadly?
And how would anybody know? Couldn't a bad trip
have been caused by the mud and the crowds? JIC

I seem to remember, in my younger, stupid days, that we would often get
stomach pains from various imbibed chemicals. We kids always attributed it
to strychnine or some other poison that would be used to both cut the drug
and "enhance" the experience.
Probably urban legend.

Definitely urban legend, the most likely cause would be ergot toxicity, but the
amount of chemical is so small that is is unlikely. . .

No way, the pains were very real. Sometimes muscle pains also. A lot of
stuff passed off as mesc or acid or thc or microdot or whatever was often
someone's kitchen lab experiment. I'm not saying that decent lsd has that
effect, what I'm saying is that kids bought a lot of street drugs of dubious
origin and mystery ingredients. Names were given to this stuff that was
false advertising.
Never had much problem with blotter though, as I recall.

So I attended Woodstock & sold/traded 100 tabs of brown acid that I had "copped" in Springfield, MA- I had of course tried it first and it was very potent bad in ni way "bad". The "brown acid" was not bad at all. In fact, they announced later that is was just more powerful than many had ever taken and were simply not used to it.They offered help to "come down" to any who had taken it (I sold 100 tabs) in the freak out tent.
