In 1967 The Beatles released "Sgt. Peppers" album with that great cover with
themselves surrounded by cutout photos and wax dummies of many famous people of
the 20th century up to that time. In 1968 The Mothers Of Invention took the
same idea and released "We're Only In It For The Money" album. In 1987, the
Grateful Dead took the idea to its extreme with the release of "In The Dark."
I am wondering what other groups took the idea of the Beatles with their next
release covers like the "Sargent Pepper's" cover?

I must have a different cover...where do you see the influence of Sgt
Pepper's in a black cover which only shows the bandmembers eyes (and in some
cases upside down)...

The Rolling Stones - "Their Satanic Majesties Request" comes pretty close to
Sgt. Pepper, but I wouldn't say that they took the Beatles idea. They used a
3-D photo of the band in similar clothing, that's about it.

Other Album cover parodies/imitations include:

The Clash - London Calling is a take on an Elvis Presley album

Doggy Style (a skate band out of So Cal) - Doggy Style II was a parody of Led
Zeppelin II, right down to the typeface.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Abbey Road EP:

I'm sure there are many others I'm missing here.

John Weber - Libertyville, IL

My favorite is probably The Orb's "Live Orb '93", which spoofs Pink Floyds
'Animals'.

There's a Joe Jackson record which pays homage to one of the great Sonny
Rollins Blue Notes

I know there have been several knock-offs of Sgt. Pepper, but exact
details slip my mind.

LOL! Yes!! Hahaha... they use a big stuffed sheep! BTW Live Orb '93 is
a fantastic album. I'm a huge Orb fan I think their stuff is great.
Or at least was great. I dunno... I think "Orblivion", their '99
(?'98?) release was a downturn for them as it marked the shortening of
songs to commercially acceptable length [well kinda]... and their
compositions became tighter, which sort of defied what the Orb was all
about. I haven't heard anything released since then. however I think
that Orbvs Terrarvm is one of the great acheivements of the 1990's.
And Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld is truly fantastic too.

Let's see... album cover spoofs... I honestly can't think of any right
now... that's a damn shame. oh well back to work.

Weird Al: his parody of the Nirvana album.
Spinal Tap: the black album, later actually used by Metallica.

I still have this album. There are the heads of the four Beatles hidden
in the 3d picture.
