Never heard of Louisiana Gold... I'm a Pico Pica guy first and foremost, though Tapatio works it's way into the pantry every now and then too. And Cholula works in a pinch too.

I got more than 20 bottles of hot sauce in my refrigerator. So many
good ones to choose from El Yucateco is a good option. I also like
the Haitian/Jamaican mustard/habanero sauces. So yummy.

I like hot sauces (and salsas) but I've never cared for Tabasco sauce. Flavorless heat that, to my tastes, adds nothing to eggs, potatoes, meats or seafood. Crystal or Uncle Steve's are much better in the Louisiana-style sauces. For Mexican sauces, Cholula or Tapatio's.

I agree with Neil. The mustard based Caribbean scotch bonnet/habanero sauces are great. You need to try a few to find one you like. Melinda's or Marie Sharpe's habanero sauces are very good. Others I would add, (as Dave noted) Sambal Oeleck's ground chile sauce (not the paste, and not the one with garlic) is amazing, Ring of Fire's habanero is very good (as a dipping type sauce). Folks are always down on tabasco, but I think it is very good with certain foods, ie gumbo. I personally stay away from sauces with weird ingredients, just gimme peppers, maybe some carrot, onion, and garlic, salt, vinegar, and that's about it. When you see fruit, herbs, etc, stay away. You can add that stuff later.

I have something called Sambal Badjak past in the fridge. I think that 8oz (by weight) bottle is going to turn out to be a lifetime supply. I dip a teaspoon in to coat it and stir the spoon in whatever I am cooking, and that is sufficient for me.

Some of the chipotle based sauces are very good too. Tabasco Chipotle
is very good, as is El Yucateco Chipotle (HOT!). I agree about
Melinda, her habanero/mustard is very good. The bottle I have now is
some anonymous brand from Barbados, it's in essentially a ketchup
bottle with wide mouth. You gotta be really careful pouring that
stuff, I tell ya!! There is a local Roslindal business (that's my
neighborhood in Boston) named Alex's Ugly Sauce that is really good.
The Original is best. The Dragon is disappointing, not nearly as hot
as Original, despite the claims of the manufacturer.

Crystal just has no heat to it, it's essentially orange vinegar.
Really don't like Crystal. Cholula and Taptio both do have nice
flavor, they are a little on the mild side, but they are both
definitely in my collection at home.
