That's my primary disappointment with "Pi" - it HAS been done before:

I'm still very much looking forward to the album, though.

Oh dear, the educational version is playing as I type. LOL!

Kate injects so much passion into this number though - I really love it. I actually think this song is more about the sensitive man obsessed with calculating pi than it is about the calculation itself. To the man calculating pi, it is a thing of beauty, and Kate gets this across so well.

Oh that is hilarious!

Not sure who the slightly smutty rap break in the middle is aimed at, but
the rest of the song could have been written by Phillip Glass. Studio
footage seems partially inspired by SIYL! LOL

What in Kate's holy name WAS that?! Starts out looking like something
off Sesame Street, but that's gotta be a parody. I don't see any
reason for disappointment with Kate's version, they couldn't have been
any more different if she'd decided to do e instead.

Pi by Hard 'n Phirm

When ink and pen in hands of men
Inscribed your form by beetle P
They draw an altar on which God has
Slaughtered all stability
No ice could ever soak in all the
Places you annoint
And yet to see you all at once
We only need the point
Flirting with infinity
O geometric progeny
That fit inside you oh so tight
With triangles that feel so right

(3.14159265358979323846264338327950288419716939937510582097494459)

Forever constant harmony
Says far as discipline
The patron saint of imperfection
Frees us from our sin
And if our transcendent intellect
Should find the final floor
Then men will know the death of God
Where wonder was before

Yeah, I know this math shit backwards and forwards
Check it out
Bi-bi-di-di

I bit three chicks then I pointed at the door
A girl entered in so that made it four
I snapped one time in came another five
Add 'em all up and that makes nine
The average age 26.5
Now that's what I call gettin' some pie
Five of the chicks wore 6-inch heels
Two of the nine squealed like seals
514 was the area code
Cause that Canada my window abode
And my 1.3 million dollar chalet
Pi backwards, pi forwards, all night and all day

I pulled the lyrics off
<http://www.thedoctordementoshow.com/song_details.aspx?SongID=12139>.
After watching and reading along, I see some errors, e.g. it's "Quebec
Canada" not "Cause that Canada".

Since the name of the song is not actually "Pi," but a symbol, should we
call it "The Song Formerly Known As Pi"??

Does anyone else think "Pi" sounds dated -- like Kate recorded it during the
TRS recording sessions, decided not to put it on TRS, but later decided to
throw it on her next album?

Since we know KoTM was recorded over a decade ago, I can't help but wonder
which other songs are also "older."

Love,
Sammi

Ah... I thought he said:

"Calls" that Cananda

...which would still make sense regardless of the area code.

You meant "Sexual Healing was recorded...", right? Or do you have
some source for this information?

***Well, the Mojo interview stated it was written about 10 years ago,

She stated in her BBC Front Row interview from last Friday that she recorded KoTM over 10 years ago.

Didn't I say this 2 days ago? Are you not receiving my posts, |>oug? Maybe
this is why my two requests for ETV artwork have been (apparently)

7/11/05? That's just a few months ago. That doesn't predate Kate's
version! Kate's been working on that album for the last decade! No
doubt Hard 'n Phirm got wind of what Kate was working on, and rushed
their version out to beat her to the punch.

I have to admit, though, that the Hard 'n Phirm video is awesomely
clever.

If I were just guessing, I would judge KotM to be the oldest track here. It
just sounds the most like Kate on TRS.

Back in July when all Kate fans everywhere were soaking up the tiniest of
titbits about the new album, we didn't know there was going to be a track
called Pi or that she would be singing the numerical value. So I doubt they
got wind of it and rushed out their own version.

I've emailed the producer to ask him to clarify whether Kate was an
influence because he describes on his site how they came up with it and
Kate's not even hinted at.

BTW - if you google for songs about Pi, you'll be surprised at how many have
been written.

Anyone noticed the odd time signature on Pi.
I wonder if it is in Pi/4 time.

Hmmmm, is that possible?

On the other hand, I've seen sheet music for stuff from "The Kick
Inside" and some of the songs change time signatures just about every
few bars....
