Looks like Natalie Portman will join the long line of actresses who
have played Cathy.

Wow, how many film versions of this novel does the world need???

I wonder if this is a record. Anyone know of another novel that has had
more film versions?

Burrough's Tarzan, possibly.

Or how about Dicken's "Oliver Twist"?

Then there's Stoker's "Dracula".

Or, if you want to talk influenced by, the most obvious is Matheson's "I
Am Legend". Too many films to name here, but the "post
apocalyptic/vampire" genre has it's roots in the original novel.

All I can say about all this is: Why did God give me life? What is it
but hunger and pain?

Holy Moly! Sir Laurence did _Pride_and_Prejudice_, too! (And _Hamlet_,
which I was going to mention except there is no novel.)

I'm all for letting them do another version of "Wuthering Heights," just so
long as they don't let Kate Bush ACT in it. If she wants to SCORE it, great,
but no acting. I've seen enough.

Now that you mention it, that sounds like good subject matter for a
song....

The only other musical hero of mine who should have been talked out of acting
even more than Kate was Frank Zappa. His performance on "Miami Vice, " as a
drug dealer, was so embarrassing that I actually felt bad for his STUNT GUY.
But then maybe I shouldn't -- at least HE got to jump off the boat.

He made up for that poor performance with his appearance on Crossfire.

Wait a minute...that wasn't acting...oh, nevermind.
