Bustah Jones plays on Eno's Taking Tiger Mountain and/or Warm Jets I
believe, but is not distinctive. He reappears (again, IMS) on My Life in
the Bush of Ghosts, and was also the main bassist for the Heads in the
Stop Making Sense era.
He had a solo lp, with a nice single off it. Interestingly, I have never
heard any assiduous slapping in his playing in these recordings, more of
a finger funker.

I believe he did indeed enter the stereo cabinet a while ago, but if
anyone has more details on Bustah, post them.
Too bad you have no tapes from the Pep lounge shows ;)

Can't say what he's doing now (and lets hope the early demise theory is
wrong) but I used to have a mid 70s album that he played on by The Sharks (a
band that featured guitarist Chris Speading). The lines where simple
straight ahead rock but played with beautiful directness and distinction. I
was quite surprised to see him surface again as a funk player with the Heads
a decade later. Used to play a Rick as I remember.

His solo album shows him with one does it not? (not in front of me to
check). (I'll look into the Chris Spedding!).

Alas, I'm sure I read he died maybe two or three years ago. Maybe in
BP? Wait and see if someone posts a correction.

That is a shame. I leaned a lot about rock playing from working out the bass
lines to the Sharks tunes - I wasn't crazy about the band but his playing
was one of the first examples of simple is better that really drew my
attention.

Anyone know how he got is nickname, or perhaps we are better off not
knowing.

Aidan.

I thought he spelled his name 'Busta'. He's listed on All Music Guide:

http://www.allmusic.com/cg/x.exe?p=amg&sql=B18563

I remember Busta from the early 80's when he was working with the
Talking Heads. Interesting thing: He is not credited with playing on
any of their studio albums, but he has credits for live performances.

Somewhere around '82 or '83, I was in NYC, working on a recording at
Blank Studios (now defunct, I think). The Talking Heads were in the
next room, doing parts for their record. I remember that we were
kinda pissed that the Heads stole our favorite engineer (Butch Jones).
Can't blame them--Butch was great to work with (I wonder where he is
now?)

The singer and I kinda walked into the control room at the wrong
moment and interrupted one of Busta's bass tracks (Oops!). I wish I
could remember what the tune was. I remember only that it was a great
groove. Kinda like 'Once in a Lifetime', but it may have been too
early for that.

Anyway, he was definitely in the studio with the Talking Heads, which
may contradict the credits on the studio CD's. The other possibility
is that he they were doing overdubs on their 'live' CD which also came
out around that time. I don't remember the tracks sounding like that,
tho'. Definitely sounded like they were recording new tracks.

According to MusicMinder:
Date Died: 7th November 1995
Location Died: United States of America
Cause Of Death: Heart failure

He played with Chris Spedding & Sharks (UK Band) replacing Andy Fraser in 1973. He was recommended to Chris Spedding by Mick Jagger! There's a great video on Vimeo of Sharks with Busta playing a superb black Rickenbacker 4001: https://vimeo.com/162002250

Enjoy!
