Its a jazz-funk song, sung half by a woman and a man does the second
half.
It's about a woman who has left her partner, and then returns, saying
that she was foolish to walk out on him etc. Here is what I know about
it:
I think it's from the 1981-84 era when jazz funk was at it's best (at
least that's my opinion!).
The first line is "I can't sleep at night", and here are the other
lyrics I remember, likely to be out of order.
First half:
"I can't sleep at night"
"Here I am, with you again, I'm a woman in love and so in love with
you"
"I've been a real fool"
"True love is so hard to find, and it didn't take you long to walk out
on me, hmmm-mmmm, and that was that"
Chorus:
"This time, I'm gonna make it last forever, hmmmm, you and me. This
time, baby, I'm gonna make it last forever and ever and ever and
ever...."
Second half (male):
"Walked out on you" (repeated a few times)
"True love is so hard to find" (repeated a few times)
"Found somebody new" (repeated a few times)
"I'm satisfied, so satisfied" (repeated a few times)
Chorus again:
"This time, I'm gonna make it last forever, hmmmm, you and me. This
time, baby, I'm gonna make it last forever and ever and ever and
ever...."
This is the third time I've enquired about this song on
rec.music.funky! It isn't Ashworth and Simpson of "Solid" fame as
someone suggested!
Someone must know this!
Cheers,
KP.
Would that be the song, "She's Got Papers On Me"? In that song, the
guy sings first then the woman cuts in later lamenting about him.
Forget my last post. I'm wrong, but I think I do remember that song.
When it's at the, "I'm satisfied, so satisfied" line, is it uptempo
sounding?
Yes it is! It's also sung in an "out of breath", deadpan kinda voice,
not whispered, but "out of breath".
And I've remembered some more, the "This time" of "This time, I'm
gonna make it last forever" is sung in a male, synthesised voice, but
not the male voice that cuts in later.
Also the "I've been a real fool... and it didn't take you long to walk
out on me, hmmmm and that was that" line is spoken rather than sung,
with the music still continuing in the background.
And I've remembered another line "I'm thinkin' about ya, ba-by" which
comes before "I'm a woman in love and so in love with you.." in
another verse.
Aaaaah, I dreamt about this song last night!!! It's driving me
nuts!!!!
Hi
I definitely know this song - but I can't remember the artist! :-(
When I read the lyrics, I even have the melody in my ears...
I believe it could Peabo Bryson or T.Pendergrass duet, maybe something
w/ Roberta Flack. Another Idea would be Atlantic Starr.
But I looked through all my CDs and could'nt find it. Maybe google helps
you, searching for lyrics from the artists mentioned above.

Bernhard
Also try AMG All Music Guide. I've been looking up Anita Baker,Miki
Howard, etc under different titles like True Love, I'm Satified to try
and help you but to no avail. Maybe you will have better luck.
I originally thought Roberta Flack, when I think of the chorus line of
"Back Together Again" w/Donny Hathaway, it reminds me very much of
this song.
I will now try googling these terms, thanks for your help.
Hi
more ideas: Champaign "This time" (1984), Chocolate Jam Co. "This Time"
(1979), Jocelyn Brown "Make it last forever". I don't know the lyrics of
those, but they are soul ballads from around early 80s.

Bernhard

LOZZY
It is.
