just released : 'INCredible sound of Gilles Peterson', I just bought it
yesterday, check it.
Gilles is the founder of Talking Loud records, the man behind the
Nuyorican Soul Project and all
round champion of good music.

(ps. I don't work for a label, I have no commercial interest in plugging
music, I just like to spread the news
on good tunes)

Gilles has put his name to a few very good compilations it's true, but to
say he is 'the man behind the Nu yorican Soul Project' is another thing
entirely. First off, it's the work of the many talented and legendary
musicians like Roy Ayers, Dave Valentin, Jocelyn Brown etc. and of course
the Masters At Work (Kenny Dope Gonzalez & Little Louis Vega). If your
reference is to the fact that Talkin' Loud brought it to our attention, then
sorry but as with so many of Talkin' Loud's output it's really to do with
licencing from other labels. The aforementioned album being a prime
example. Let's not forget also that Talkin' Loud is actually backed and
owned by Polygram, a multinational operation that has more than enough spare
cash & assets to offer lots of money to get whatever it wants; And this
includes Talkin' Loud.
I'm am a DJ & a musician but the one thing that gets me down these days is
the high profile and big credit DJ's get for is basically one man playing
another man's music. Let's hear it for the artists who make DJ's like
Gilles what they are by providing the music in the first place.
Peace,

Jaco D'Afro

I agree 100%....but

Let's hear it for those who bring music to people that they would never have
otherwise heard.
Nuyorican Soul was the result of Gilles and M.A.W having an idea and bringing
all the artists
together, it wasn't just licensing old tunes.

Where would Terry Callier be now without the support he got from British DJ's ?

similarly, proactive sound systems like Soul Jazz Records who go and get
artists to
record new material i.e. 'Brasil' it's not just about playing records, nearly
everyone
over the age of 16 can competently beat mix, it's about supporting music and
pushing things forward
which is something that Gilles has always been at the forefront of.

respect where it's due

I had gilles Playing at my club motherfunk (www.motherfunk.co.uk) a couple
of weeks ago and he was fantastic. To top it of he was a realy nice guy
unlike some Dj's who think they are more important than the music. His
compilation is well worth a purchase for the minnie rip. track alone ( if
you aint already got it )
