Now Winkin' and Blinkin' are two little eyes
And Nod is a little head
And the wooden ship they sailed upon is a wee one's trundle bed
Thanks,

Wynken, Blynken & Nod.
Lyrics are a poem by Eugene Field. That's the easy part (i.e. he's in your
library; my little golden book version, with illustrations, isn't, though,
& I can't get the damn thing anywhere. I don't want all those dead-weight
other poems; the kids' book cut out the chaff & kept all the great ones.
And I miss those illustrations.)
I know, or knew, the tune (scout camp strikes again) but can't send
chords, tab, etc because I can't read/write chords, tab, etc...

I can hear Peter or Paul of "& Mary" singing this, which doesn't mean they
did, of course; still, they might have. Its the kind of thing they'd do,
in the style they'd do it in. Worth a look.

Here's the words and chords as I wrote them in my personal song book
years ago. I barely remember the song now and am really unsure of the
chords, but since no one posted last year they're probably better than
nothing.

WINKIN', BLINKIN' AND NOD
Em A
Winkin', Blinkin' and Nod one night
D Em A
Sailed off in a wooden shoe
A
Sailed on a river of crystal light into a sea of dew
"Where are you going and waht do you wish?"
The old moon asked of the three
"We've come to fish for the herring fish
That swim in the beautiful sea.
Nets of silver and gold have we," said Winkin', Blinkin' and Nod.
The old moon laughed and sang a song
As they rocked in their wooden shoe
And the wind that sped them all night long
Ruffled the waves of dew.
The silver stars were the herring fish
That lived in the beautiful sea
"Cast your nets wherever you wish, never afeared are we."
So sang the stars to the fishermen three, Winkin', Blinkin' and Nod.
All night long their nets they threw
To the stars in the twinkling foam
Then down from the sky same the wooden shoe
Bringing the fishermen home
Now we shall name you the fishermen three, Winkin', Blinkin' and Nod
Now Winkin' and Blinkin' are two little eyes and Nod is a little head
And the wooden shoe that sailed the skies
Is a wee one's trundle bed
Now close your eyes and dream the dreams
That some say could not be
And you shall see the wonderful things
As you rock on the misty sea
Where the old moon rocked the fishermen three, Winkin', Blinkin' and Nod

I seem to remember Peter, Paul & Mary singing this song but not sure if
was on on a tape/record or on one of their PBS specials. Maybe their
XMAS Spl of a few years ago that plays each year. Perhaps your local PBS
station could point you in the right direction.

Your request rang a bell and I dug deeply into the bowels
of my LP crypt. Wedged between the Plymouth issue of Best Loved
Spirituals by the Spiritualsingers and It's Hard by The Who, I
found the album, "Folk Songs - Rare and Well Done by The Ivy
League Trio. Cut number 3 on side one is Winken, Blinken and
Nod. The blurb on this cut reads as follows; Eugene Field's
poetic work set to a melody by folklorist Dave Gude and
interpreted by the trio makes this lullaby a charming offering.
I'm not sure if this Coral Records recording CRL 757404 is
reissued anywhere but, although this disk has not seen a turn
table in about 15 years(or more), it must be good because I
still remembered it when you mentioned the lullaby.
Happy New Year
