>How above the beautiful "Cherry Tree Carol?" You can find it on "Joan
>Baez, Vol. 2" on Vanguard CD's.

Or the equally delightful "Christians & The Pagans" by my fave DAR
WILLIAMS!! This song is on "Mortal City" on Razor & Tie Records.

Foe what it's worth, David Grisman's Acoustic Christmas CD / LP is great
for the season!

I missed the original thread, but on the topic....
My fave Christmas CD is the Roches "We three Kings" - all the traditionals,
with their beautiful voices and senses of humor.
Highly recommended.

If you like acoustic instrumental arrangements of carols (well known and
not so well known) you might check out the URL below.

I agree. It's a beautiful haunting melody.

I can highly recommend that you avoid like the plague any group with
cutely mis-spelled words in their name, as they're almost certain to
be an early-music group, will sing stiffly, out-of-tune & with many other
vocal affectations & in general won't know beans about folksongs.

Unless that's what you ********wanted*.

"The Coventry Carol" has a beautiful and strange tune -- and has to be
the strangest Christmas song ever: all about the slaughter of the
Innocents by Herod. Funny, though, how the audience never seems to
notice what it's about!!

Reminds me of lots of lullabies that are pretty scary if you pay
attention to the lyric.

Does anyone know if Fred Small has a web site? I'm also looking for
chords to some of his great songs - I'd appreciate hearing from anyone
who plays his music. Thanks.

You might try "Christmas Lullaby" by Doc Watson on his "On Praying
Ground" album.

I do not know of a web site for Mr. Samll, but i do play his music quite
often on my "folk City" program at KAXE Northern Community Radio in
Grand RApids, MN. I especially like the cd titled Jaguar. Great stuff,
some of it is really haunting.

Lots of our listeners seem to like his music too. Keep listening.
