Could someone please help a friend of mine find one of the early albums
that would have Joan Baez singing "Amazing Grace"acapella when she is NOT
in concert? It has to be on an album that is out of print -- because all
the ones my friend has found has Baez singing live in concert
and she will sing a line then say the next line really fast for the
audience to join it. A music store rep recommended that she try asking a
newsgroup on the net and so here we are!

Any help would be appreciated.

There is also a listserv ( joan...@magenet.com ) and the Joan Baez
Web Pages ( http://baez.woz.org/ ).

A non-live Baez 'Amazing Grace'? Never heard of one, but there are
some real Baez experts to be found hanging around these three 'venues'.

Sorry I'm too new to this newsgroup stuff. I have Joan Baez singing
acapella on a cd here from A&M Records. It's A&M 25th Anniversary Joan
Baez Classics volume 8, done in 1976.

I don't know of one either, but there's probably one out there if you've
heard of it. BTW, the Baez server is being moved, I think the address may
be going to change slightly, although I'm not sure on that. If you can't
get it right now, don't think it or Joan Baez are dead. As a matter of
fact, both are alive and kicking, both literally and figuratively.
And if anyone is a true, died in the wool, Baez fan, with uncanny knowledge
about Joan and her music (among other things);Jim Crook is. How about it
Jim, know the answer to this one? The question was: Is there a recording
of Joan singing amazing Grace thats not at a "live concert"
And the Baez listserv is lots of fun. It can be uncomfortably quiet at
times, but then at other times, it can really get active. Some say too
active! If you're interested in Joan Baez (or even perhaps Bob Dylan),
you might find some of the posts entertaining. Then again, you might not.
Anyway, those folks all seem to have lots of fun. Join by sending your
name in. There are plenty of International Baez fans in the group, so if
you're from somewhere other than the US, you're welcome in the Baez World
Community. If you are from out of the country, you might expect to get a
few letters asking if you know of any Baez releases from your country that
we can't get in the US. I for one would love to see some Asian and Eastern
European/Soviet fans.
And if you don't know what a listserv is, its a group of fans who band
together who share common interest and mail on a mailing list. So if you
post something, it gets delivered by e-mail to everyone on the list,
including you. So you'll read mail from all over the world. Not meaning
to make light of anyone who doesn't know what a listserv is. I was there
myself once.
Good luck in your hunt for the song. If you find the answer, please let
all of us at the listserv know. There are a number of members who don't
have access to newsgroups.
Thanks
Bruce Harris Perry

OOPS- I meant "Jim Stewart", who posts quite often here. I had confused
Joan's manager "Crook Stewart" and had transposed the name. Anyway, Jim is
the expert I was talking about. I've heard "Crook Stewart" is an expert in
his field of expertise, and judging from the incredible success of Joan's
album "Ring Them Bells", he and Nancy Lutzow are doing an outstanding job.
I'd say they're helping keep Joan Baez "Forever Young", if not by the
clock, at least in spirit. And her latest albums are outstanding. The
latest Vanguard release, which I haven't gotten yet, has some previously
unreleased Baez works from some of the Newport Folk Festivals. Now, those,
I gotta hear. Anyway, apologies to Jim Stewart and Crook Stewart-two
different people with the same last name. Anyone hear wanna clue me in on
the quality of the cuts? I've always found those old Newport LP's
fascinating, but new material on CD is like getting buried treasure.

Here is someone from the Eastern Europe. I am a fan of Joan Baez and
there was a release of more her LPs (still vinyl) in our country.

What was the lastest album you were writting about?
