Greetings Folkies,
davo here.

I just had the pleasure of attending an album release concert,
_Circles_, by Harvey Reid at the Pressroom, in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
and tought I should post some of the liner notes, and contact data, as
this is a most worthwhile recording. Note: there is no connection with
Harvey, except for a great admiration for his talent and music.

From the liner Notes, by Harvey Reid:

This collectionl of songs and insturmentals includes baroque, ragtime
and Celtic solog guitar pieces, an epic ballad, a gospel harmony
song, two mandolin instrumentals, a couple of rocking songs, some
introspective art songs, an autoharp march, an almost-protest song,
an anti-love song, a love song, a country song, a vocal duet, and
some folk songs. They were recorded at about 7 different locations,
including several motel rooms, my home, a cabin in Maine, a house in
New Mexico, and a tavern. All the tracks were recorded with only a
digital tape recorder and a pair of microhones, in the hopes that the
music could be captured "alive" in its natural habitat.

_Star Island Jig_ (H. Reid) (4:14) I always thought the fingerpicked
12-string had a good Celtic sound, with the double strings sounding
not unlike mandolin family instruments and hammered dulcimers. I
don't know anybody else who uses one this way. Splitting the pairs is
very tricky. Star Island is off the coast of New Hampshire, which
is about 15 miles long, unless you consider it from a fractal
geometry viepoint, in which case it is infinitely long.

Total program: 72 mins.
Cost: $17

The new Harvey Reid disc is first rate, indeed. I like Harvey's
instrumental works more than his vocals, but I enjoy his singing
here more than I have on previous sessions. Harvey combines technique and emotion
so nicely in his playing, and always chooses a wonderfully diverse selection of
material. I highly recommend getting the new release.

And i too have to confess no financial interest or personal connection, other
than talking to Harvy a lot at the espresso line stand at 3 am at Winfield ;)

Bob M was about done, but I think this is a good place to add
a mention of the new Joel Mabus release. While his last was
mostl;y songs, the new one, which I believe is called Flatpick and
Clawhammer, is, you guessed it, guitar and banjo instrumentals.

for those of you lucky to have his old lp Faeries and Fools, you won't nned
to be sold on this one. It is a beaut!!!! Shoot, i don't have Joel's address here
at home, if anyone wants to know it, I will post it :)
