From what I remember, it was about 20 years ago, and it was done by one of
those "one-hit-wonder" rock bands that came, went, and never were heard
form again.
You do have the makings of an EXCELLENT trivia question, however!

The original recording was by the Five Man Electric Band. Sorry, it seems
to have strayed from my 45 collection, so I can't offer any more details.
You might have more luck on a newsgroup oriented toward vintage rock...

The song was originally written by "The Five Man Electrical Band". IMHO is a
better version.

was by the Five Man Electrical Band, circa
early 1970s.
