: A couple of years ago, Christine did a concert at The Ark in Ann Arbor.
: She got three guys, including the club owner, to come up on stage to serve
: as the chorus for SNAG.
: Came the point in the song where she asks the chorus if they know who
: played in the Seattle Kingdome. They huddled together for a moment, and
: responded in unison "Uncle Bonsai?".
: Christine, and the part of the audience who had heard the UB album where
: they talk about performing the Star Spangled Banner in the Seattle Kingdome,
: totally lost it at that point...

Incidentally, that Uncle Bonsai album/CD is "Boys Want Sex in the Morning",
and is not only great, but still available...As is their other album (not in
CD format yet--c'mon, guys!) entitled "A Lonely Grain of Corn", which has
the GREAT song "Penis Envy". Both discs *highly* recommended!

Well actually what happened is that Freckle Records released "Boys
Want" on CD without consulting with the members of Bonsai. They wound up
seriously displeased with the result (with reason, no liner notes, not great
mastering) and let Freckle know about it. Thus the original version of
"A Lonely Grain of Corn" is almost certainly not going to released on CD. Ever.
However, Andrew Ratshin did put together a compilation album for his
own record label. This is called "The Inessential Uncle Bonsai" and is about
75 minutes long. It contains most of the songs that were on the first two
albums, taken from live concert performances. The new intro for "Penis Envy"
is absolutely hilarious. It contains all the songs from "A Lonely Grain of
Corn" except for "Day Old Whale." (No great loss in my opinion.) The major
omissions from "Boys Want" is that they don't have the version of the Star
Spangled Banner on there and "Never Put It in Your Mouth" is missing. No
good copies exist outside of the original album.
Yellow Tail Records also released a CD version of the third and final
Uncle Bonsai album, Myn Ynd Wymyn. Not as good in my opinion. In the month
since I've gotten them I've played "Inessential" probably around 15 times,
while only playing MYW only twice.
Both are available direct from Electric Bonsai Productions, which
someone can surely post the phone number and address for right? (I've got it,
just not with me.)

That`s pretty funny. Christine was doing "Sensitive New Age Guys"
in concert years before she released it on "Attainable Love". On a
live New York Radio show (Vin Scelsa's "Idiot's Delight") in 1988, Uncle
Bonsai was playing live and Christine sent in a tape of "Sensitive
New Age Guys" for Uncle Bonsai to sing along with. When the line
about the Seattle Kingdome came up, Andrew of Uncle Bonsai replied
"Suzanne Vega?". Anticipating the response, Christine replied
(on the pre-recorded tape) "Good Answer, Good Answer".
So, I thought it funny that others would reply "Uncle Bonsai" at that
point of the song!

The actual title is "Regretting What I Said..." and goes on for a long long
paragraph. The _sub_title is "A Musical Apology".
It's on "Future Fossils".
