Saw this folk singer (from Maine I belive) for the first time this past
weekend in Portsmouth NH. He reminded me of a younger J. Taylor. Great
songwriting, nice artistic/folk sound. I'd recommend seeing him if he's in
your area. Dar Williams also put on a great show.

Nora, you are in luck! As Barb Scott said in a follow-up posting, Ellis Paul
will be coming to Northern California as part of this Spring's Camp
California House Concert series. He will be playing four shows from Feb. 22
through 25 in Campbell (San Jose), San Francisco, Santa Cruz, and Monterey.
I've probably seen Ellis perform more than any other performer (about 25
times now, I suspect) and I never tire of hearing him perform. He is one of
the most literate songwriters and he has the ability to really connect with
any kind of audience, from college students, to bar crowds, to old ladies in
a a church basement. E-mail me if you want more information about the
upcoming shows, or better yet, check out the Camp California Web Page at:

Just to add some more information about Ellis' upcoming album, from an
interview that I heard with him on The Coffeehouse on WERS 88.9FM in
Boston, his next album is called "Carnival of Voices" and it is being
produced by the man who does drums for Peter Gabriel (who also plays on
the album) also, Tony Levin, an outstanding bassist who has recorded with
Peter Gabriel as well will also be on the album. Sounds like it'll be
great. I believe its do out in May. In the meantime, check out STORIES
on Rounder Records, its a Dylan-esque (BLOOD ON THE TRACKS era) album with
some great cuts. He also has an album called SAY SOMETHING, but you may
only be able to find that at his shows. I just saw him in Cambridge, MA
last weekend and he did an outstanding show. I really think that he is
heading for the big time with this new album, so catch one of his shows
and say that you knew him when.
